Morning all, I've been wanting to visit for some time now, but never have pushed the button.
Im thinking of coming out early next year jan/Feb possibly?
Currently trying to weigh up flight options, and wondering about people experiences with cheaper airlines... (non emirates or BA)
As the prices go from £1k ish down to £5-600 (shenzhen, air China, China Eastern for example) I know some of these are much longer flight times and stopover!
I'm 6ft4 and eat quite a lot, so need some leg room and half decent food and drink for that lenght of flight! 😂
Thanks in advance x

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on flight options to Thailand for an upcoming trip, expressing concerns about comfort due to their height (6'4") and the quality of food on cheaper airlines. The discussion includes experiences shared by other travelers regarding airlines like Thai Airways, Qatar, Turkish Airways, and suggestions for premium economy seating for better legroom. Some participants advise against choosing flights with long layovers, while others emphasize the importance of comfort on long-haul flights, recommending exit row seating and hydration tips during travel.
true, but when I have a 10 to 13 hour flight there is something to be said about the comfort. Also the seats are often ahead of the engines making for a quieter ride.
I've travelled with them all and emirates or Turkish Airways have always been the best. Legroom is always the problem so I always book exit seats which gives you loads . My flight this new year's eve was 1000 euro but with the exit seats 4 flights thats including return they were an extra 300 euro all in . its worth every extra penny on long haul for someone thats price range doesn't match business class. I wouldn't bother choosing a flight where there's a long wait over to save money ,it's a long enough trip going direct as it is.
I am 6'3 and have flown with different airlines like Qatar changing at Doha and it's a good experience, the legroom is sufficient on these longer flights.
If you are worried about food buy some extra in the departure lounge, there's always sandwiches and crisps.
I quite enjoy splitting the journey, but would not want longer than 3 or 4 hours. Depends where you live I guess, I am from Leeds so it's a chore getting to London for a direct flight.
yes I am aware. It's more about if any of the super cheap ones are very cheap for a reason other than the time/stop overs and what people's experiences have been with cheaper ones. It's a considerable saving, going from £1200 to £550 for example!
I just returned to Heathrow with Qatar and it was good, nothing special, had just enough time on a 1hr40 layover in Doha to change, no issues and cheap flights
I flew through China once. The planes were terrific but the whole experience was off putting. There was an unscheduled stop in China. Long distances to to get to transfer flights with confusing directions from staff. Everyone was nice and doing their job but I have deliberately chosen not to fly through China again.
Depends on how long you intend to stay. For a 2 week holiday, do you want 3-4 days of that sitting in airports worrying if the luggage made it or if you make your connection. If it comes down to direct flights, you only have 2 choices, and I choose Thai for the scheduling options.
minimum of a month. I do travel quite light tbh, done weeks or months away with just backpack and wheelie carry on size case thingy... Especially when not packing for "winter"
Have a look on trip.com who I always use I find them cheaper than directly with the airline, then you can see stopovers if you want to choose a different airline.
