What are the current conditions for flying during COVID-19, particularly for Delta flights?

Update: following my very empty flight from BKK-ICN, I flew ICN-SEA on Delta, I was the only paying customer in Delta One (but several seats filled by employees) and walking through I counted about 30 passengers on the entire flight. Crazy! At least 25 rows completely empty by my count.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In a recent travel experience, an individual reported flying on a nearly empty Delta flight from Seoul to Seattle, with only one paying customer in Delta One. This led to discussions on the drastic changes in the aviation industry due to COVID-19, including low passenger numbers and the financial strain on airlines. Some commenters expressed skepticism about safety protocols, while others highlighted the advantages of traveling in premium classes during these times. The conversation touched on the mixed feelings towards the airline industry's treatment of customers prior to the pandemic.

There are stories of the limited flights into Australia demanding that passengers pay business class prices on a flight with 30 pax in a 300 seater plane.
Bentley *******
the problem is that with such few passengers they are losing money each time they fly. It would be better not to take off. They are being forced to ask for higher prices. We can not blame the airlines for the world situation. If someone asked you to do your job, or run you business at a loss would you. I know almost all would say not if not all. I personally would not do business at a loss

Wait you didn't fly economy yet you could have had a choice of full rows to sleep on? Call me a skin flint but Ive had some great sleeps on those full rows, dunno why anyone would waste money upgrading if you have bassicly the whole plane to yourself 🤣🤣🤣 they'd probably allow you to sit in business class during the flight if you asked them nicely costing you 0 heh

I feel bad for the aviation industry. Worldwide. However, the only part of it I feel bad for in the US, is the employees. I feel for a decade or longer, they have been rotten eggs. Gouging us for luggage, selecting seats, changing dates, etc. Very opportunistic. So, my sympathy for them is very limited. Perhaps more humility, and better customer service lies within their future?

agree. I have found that delta has been very helpful in the last 8 months

Waiving fees and changing flights easily...

Flown that route a few times. Good champagne. 😂

Why did you pay for Delta One? You could have flown economy and got an entire row of seats to yourself.

while true, I also had personal service and 6 hours sleep on a great lie flat seat and a steady stream of drinks while awake. It’s the little things!

Hopefully SAFETY will not be an issue in these changing times....

in August I took 3 flights - UK to Italy; Italy to Croatia; Croatia to UK, and I didn’t get Covid19! Stop scare mongering!
Rich ********
They must be making some money with cargo
Eddie *******
@Rich *******
they were probably always making money with cargo. Passengers are probably the gravy.

Christophe **********
@Michael *******
there aren't and if you think airlines will operate at a loss to fly to BKK you have a delusional pathology

@Christophe *********
Actually there are i have actually been through the airport a few weeks ago and there is about 20 flights leaving daily. You can check this on the airport website

They can only be operating at a loss with numbers like that. The entire face of the aviation industry is going to change... the new normal will be nothing like the old one.

@Robert *****************
they have to keep flying or other companies will fill those slots ... USA will bail them out in a few weeks again !

If you had to leave that’s the way to do it. Complete comfort!
