Can I travel outside Thailand on a student visa and return without issues?

Hello,

I'm here on a student visa for a total of 9 months. I'm planning to go for a holiday (2 weeks)outside of Thailand in April and at the end of May, I'm planning to go back to my home country for a family visit, also 2 weeks.

I know that I have to buy a re-entry permit for these 2 trips but I've read that immigration might refuse entry back into Thailand because it is a student visa.

Does anyone have experience with this?

I'm Dutch and I go to Thai language school. And i have never done a visa run or anything similar, maybe this is useful information.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 9-month student visa in Thailand, planning two vacations abroad and seeking advice on re-entry issues. While they are aware of needing a re-entry permit, concerns exist about possible entry refusal upon return due to their student visa status. Comments suggest ensuring compliance with visa regulations, such as 90-day extensions.

9 months? You should have gotten a METV.

i don't know this visa?

yes, but you can still study all you want. You can study Thai without an ed visa. The school just wants your money, they don't care about your visa.

I've googled for this one I could not find if I can get it while I'm in Thailand. Now I'm actually afraid that they won't let me in so even thinking of canceling my ED visa before i leave.

yes, you have to get it in your home country. Are you planning to stay here long term. If so, then do the dtv, it is 5 years and you can get it while you're here.

But that is without school right?

Have you been doing the required 90 day extensions with the documents the school gives you? If not then you will have problems.

I still have to do to the first extension in februari. The school does it for us.

so you just started school in November? Immigration doesn't like those kinds of two week vacations from school, whether you have a re-entry permit, or not. In two months you're missing one month of school. In order to get the 90 day extension you must be making satisfactory progress, and attending classes in person regularly. Missing one whole month doesn't meet those requirements. Be warned.

Okay thank you. Yes started class november. I asked my school if it would be a problem and they said no. Then i will delay my family visit after the visa ends just to be sure.

you should anyway also get a letter from the school stating you are a student there and that they have granted leave for the trip. That could smooth things over if questioned. Any decent school will provide such a letter for accepted leave.
