Hello beautiful people!!

I am currently on a student visa. I have to leave the country for an emergency for 2-3 months. When I return will I still be on student visa or will it change back to tourist visa? Will I have to do the whole student visa process again?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about maintaining their student visa status after leaving Thailand for 2-3 months due to an emergency. Community members advise checking the visa's expiry date and obtaining a re-entry permit if necessary. They emphasize that if the visa is a single entry or if the extension has expired, the user would need to restart the visa application process upon return. The discussion also touches on the costs of visa extensions and potential complications with immigration upon returning.

I just extended my ED visa for 90 days on April 11, and the cost was 1900 baht. Not Samui office, but I’m not sure why it would be different. My extension was stamped until July 15. I may have to leave the country in June because my kids visas expire, but I’m going to get a letter from my school, pay for a re-entry permit, and hope for the best. As long as my extension doesn’t expire while I am gone, I’m counting on being able to stay in good status with my ED visa. Maybe you can do this too.

Is it just me? Emergency means have to handle quickly, I will talk to my school next week, after all due to Songkran all is closed for the next few days.

Hmmmm okay thank you so much I will go to my school this week and talk to them 💋

as long as you come back with the re-entry permit before July 15, there will be no problem.

Okay I think by now we understand that you're current stamp is good until April 30th.

Why would you pay 3000baht for an extension when the price is 1900baht?

IF you want to return on the ED visa (or extension) you would go get it extended 90 days, then get a single re-entry permit for 1000baht. That way when you return in 2 months you'd be stamped back in for the expiration date you got after the extension.

As Robert pointed out, you could be questioned by immigration officers WHY you're on an education visa but have been out of the country for the last 2 months.

Good Luck. (y)

yeah that is the Samui price - you can extend it every 3 months like this and not need to border run.( it might me price from the school , as I got that offer for a friend as well and was wondering)

Yeah it's 3000 for A three-month extension when you're on ED visa. I have to leave for an emergency. Didn't really make sense for me being gone to pay for the extension. I just don't know how he'll be when I return. Thank you!

Even if you are on a visa or 90 day extension, I am guessing 2-3 months out of the country and both will have expired. If by some quirk of fate it has not, be prepared to not get another extension or first extension, because you will have clearly not been attending classes.

It is good until April 30th. I am able to go to Ko Samui for another 3 month extension. But I'm wondering if I do that now -will it still be 'valid' when I return in two months? I don't want to waste a trip to Ko Samui and pay 3,000baht for nothing.

The Visa is a sticker in your passport with some text, it does not change in different text when being abroad. IF you have a multiple entry visa you can come back till the enter before/vaild until date stamped on the Visa. IF your visa was a Single Entry or you already visited Immigration Office for an Extension of Stay you need a re-entry permit and come back before the date in the Admitted until stamp or Extension of Stay valid until stamp. If you come back after that date than you have to start all over again.

that's what I was thinking. And didn't make sense. Okay thank you 🙏

How you explain on re entry that you applied for 3 months Extension of Stay to study and follow classes in Thailand but spend 2 months abroad instead of studying? Personal: Just go and take the papers from your school and apply for a new visa when you ready to return.

the real question IS, what is your current "admitted until" or "extension of stay valid until" stamp in your passport now?
