The new DTV soft power proposal makes no sense. How can I do a course for 9 months or more on a visa that only allows me to stay for 6 months at a time? Keep it 6 months requirement or expand the stay length to the length of the activity.
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of enrolling in a long-term course (9 months) while being restricted by a visa that permits a maximum stay of 6 months at a time. Participants highlight the current visa rules allowing multiple entries within a 5-year validity but express concern about the practicality of such requirements for course participation. Suggestions include simply leaving the country to reset the visa stamp or considering alternative visa types for longer stays. Overall, there is debate on the appropriateness of current immigration policies and potential upcoming changes.

yeah they should rather request 1+ year classes and reject everything 12 months or less. you get a 5 year visa, why should 6 months be sufficient? they should just point you to the ED visa which will give you 4x3 months, so a whole year. hope it gets more strict.
It is obvious if they did require a 9 month course minimum that the gyms would structure the courses into two semesters to allow for returning to one’s home country to recover from heavy bruising, broken eye sockets and femurs.
Thailand is reviewing all visa types, so nobody should be sitting smug right now as their visa requirements may change such as O for Retirement/Marriage. B for WP, ED.
NEW GOVERNMENT PANEL TO REVIEW ALL THAI VISA CATEGORIES AND TIGHTEN NATIONWIDE SCREENING RULE NOW
Meanwhile, the new working group will continue reviewing all visa categories and screening measures. The review includes tourist visas, investment visas, student permissions and marriage-related arrangements involving foreign nationals with Thai spouses.
Consequently, Thailand now faces one of its most extensive immigration policy overhauls in recent years. The combined measures involve shorter visa-free stays, stricter vetting procedures and higher visitor charges.
The dtv is a multi entry visa, meaning as the 180 day entry comes to an end you leave Thailand, and immediately return. It takes one day out of your life, and can be done any day of the week. On your immediate return you get another 180 day entry stamp, and can do this for 5 years. What are you confused about?
Does a 5 year validity visa with 6 months of classes make more sense to you? Be happy with what you can enjoy and what you may be able to enjoy longer with stricter conditions in place for your own benefit and the long-term sustainability of DTV.
PositiveLynx7934 Exactly. need to be careful what they wish for. With the current government, I can see them changing it to the entry lasts as long as the course. Not exactly "Foreigner Friendly". The current PM and the PM who introduced the DTV were not exactly political allies - far from it.
