Hello all!

I am going back to South Africa for a holiday in March. While I am in South Africa, I will be getting a new passport. But, I am currently on a student Visa. How do I transfer my Visa to my new passport? Can I do it in SA? If not, do I have to do it in Thailand? Which passport should I use to come into the country again then? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answer summary

The user is going back to South Africa for a holiday and will be obtaining a new passport while there. They are currently on a student visa and are inquiring about how to transfer their visa to the new passport. They ask if this can be done in South Africa or if it has to be done in Thailand, and they seek guidance on which passport to use for re-entering Thailand. Comments clarify the need for a re-entry permit since the user has an extension of stay, and they are advised to use both passports when entering Thailand.

Than you need a re-entry permit to keep this Extension of Stay alive. Get the new passport in SA and use both passport to enter Thailand.

Immigration will stamp you in till your current permitted up to date, before this date you go to Immigration and just apply for a new Extension of Stay using both passports. Than they will make a note about the visa next to your extension of stay.

However, my passport expires on 29 October 2019. I arrive back in Thailand 29 April 2019. Don't know if that will influence anything.

Are you on the first entry of the 90 days of this ED visa or are you on the Extension of Stay you got from Immigration in Thailand?
