ORIGINAL POSTER
Quick question for the group. I just got my new passport in the mail along with my old one (canceled). The US Embassy also included a letter to provide to Thai Immigration asking the. To transfer my visa stamp to the new passport. My question is: do I have to go to CW to do this or is there another location in Bangkok that would transfer the visa stamp ? Thanks for the help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the process of transferring a visa stamp to a new passport and whether it must be done at Chaengwattana Immigration. Responses confirmed that it must indeed be completed at Chaengwattana Immigration, where specific forms and copies of documents are required. Alternatives mentioned include the possibility of doing this at the airport for certain visa types or extensions, but generally, the immigration office where the original extension was granted is the required location.

They have a form at the information desk when you first go in to chaengwattana immigration (the area where they have the tables so you can fill out forms)

This is the copy from the back of it as far as what copies you need of the old and the new passport. You need copies of EVERY extension you have in the old passport

, you can use the airport only IF you have a year-long, multi-entry Non-O VISA <- the kind you go in and out on every 90 days

You carry BOTH passports until the visa in the old one expires and they stamp you in and out on the new one (AND put a notation in it that you hold a valid visa in an expired passport).

BUT

IF you're on a year long extension of stay from the immigration office (NOT A VISA) you go to the immigration office where you got your extension with BOTH passports and they will move the current extension and any valid re-entry permits to the new passport. Then you don't need to carry the old passport anymore.
