I was just informed by the US Embassy staff that I can transfer my old extension of stay (Non-O Marriage) stamp to my new passport at Suvarnabhumi before my flight. Just want to verify this is correct and how long it takes to do this so I do not miss my flight. Also, has anyone renewed a US passport recently and can share the processing time it took to receive the new one? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks confirmation on whether they can transfer their Non-O Marriage extension stamp to their new passport at Suvarnabhumi Airport before leaving Thailand. Commenters clarify that while showing both the old and new passports when exiting and re-entering Thailand is acceptable, the actual transfer of the visa must be done at the immigration office that issued the extension, not at the airport. Additionally, comments provide insights into recent US passport processing times, ranging from three weeks to under three months.

I went to BKK embassy in Oct 2023 and submitted for my PP renewal. It was done in less than 3 months.

wow, three months, or three weeks? I've not heard it taking any more than two months maximum.

it was ready I just didn’t make it back until January. Either way, still pretty efficient & let’s not criticize! I also had a name change.

Let me get this straight, you are taking the word of US Embassy officials against Thai Immigration? Good luck

Yes that’s exactly what I am doing. Thank you so much for your help! Also, everything written after the first sentence is silent.

Chris, as much as I respect the US Embassy, at the end of the day, Thai Immigration has the final say. And it doesn't take long to live in Thailand to understand that what is said or stated by one government official, does not hold true for others. Certainly wishing you the best of luck.

I sent my passport to the embassy on Oct 4 and I got it back on Nov 7

I renewed my US passport from the US Embassy in Bangkok with normal time processing and took approximately 3 and a half weeks. It arrived in the mail.

I have a Swiss passport which I renewed in Switzerland. The visa pages in the old passport were not "holed". I entered TH with both passports. Back in TH I went to immigration to transfer the visa. Easy.

right, that is the process when you get a new passport OUTSIDE of thailand, you show both when you fly in, they stamp you in on the new one, and then you take them both to the immigration office where you got your extension and they transfer the stamps

The border controll officer at Suvarnabhumi, told me hey Why I have 3 passports as seeing in the system.

So surprised they knew about:

I acquired Swiss as brand new never ised but asked DTV for that. Ok they know about.

I used always Hungarian one just was approached the ending (less then 6 months till experacy) so I requested new one at Hungary (never used anywhere)

And interestingly they know about these 3..

They did not know with renewal actually other was cancelled and holed ;) so I told them only 2 usable.

I got knowledge to not do tricks to change passports to enter as they knew about all anyway ;)

Thai Immigration Officers know ALL about any passport you have ever used. Upon arrival your Passport pulls up everything about you. Facial recognition software and fingerprints are USED.

@James *******
yeh, but they knew about a passport which was never used as I just got it 1 month before at Hungary as my personal request of early renewal. And I did not use that one to enter.

And this is why you DO NOT listen to embassy people about anything to do with thai immigration stamps. 🙁

You cannot transfer your extension OR re-entry permit at Suvarnabhumi when you fly out.

You can show BOTH passports when you fly out, they'll stamp you out on the new one, and when you come back you show both again and they'd stamp you in

BUT

What they won't do is transfer your existing extension or re-entry permit (which will be in the old passport) to the new one.

The way that is actually supposed to work is you get the new passport, you take BOTH passports to the immigration office that issued the extension, they'll transfer the existing extension, re-entry permit (if you got that permit at their office) to the new passport along with the relevant other stamps and THEN you show the new passport when you exit the country.

Now as far as how long does it take to get a US passport, post on the US expat in thailand group and ask as that is about as far from a thai visa question as you can throw a stick.

I'd say you should bank on it taking as long as it says on the ACS (American Citizen Services division) of the US Embassy website under "renew a passport in thailand". Plan on at least that, know that there are US holidays comin' up that means passport process will be extended (as nothing moves during US holidays)
