I am currently staying in Bangkok. I want to transfer my current, valid Thai visa (METV) from my old passport (no more empty pages) to my newly-received book. (I also have the transfer request letter from the US consulate.) Can the transfer be done in one day at the Bangkok immigration office? Is there a particular form I need to fill out? I have read online that this costs 1,500 THB. Is that right? Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The transfer of a Thai visa (METV) from an old passport to a new one is not possible. You are advised to keep your old passport, which contains the valid visa, and present both passports when entering or exiting Thailand. Other commenters mentioned that while you don't need to transfer the visa, you do need to have your new passport stamped by immigration when you travel again. There are no forms required for this process, and the visa cannot be transferred during a visit to the immigration office.

You need to transfer an extension of stay if you have one but you do not transfer visas (done free at immigration in one visit). Just use in the old passport as others have said. Present both passports when you enter the Kingdom.

No transfer possible keep you old passport visa still valid - just the latest immigration stamp has to be transferred but no need to go to immigration for that when you fly out next time they will ask you to go to a separate counter and they will transfer it ( less than 5 minutes)

I was there too because German embassy told me I have to transfer visa to new passport- but after waiting long time at immigration office they siad no transfer possible and they even don’t mentioned anything about stamp transfers - so I also learned it only at the airport:)

thanks for clarifying that, would have saved me a lot of time at CW, lol.

While you can't transfer the Visa, I had to visit Immigration to have the new passport stamped accordingly. This followed having the old passport cancelled at my Embassy in Bangkok.

you can not transfer a visa sticker from an used passport to a new passport, you just use both passport while travel. The old one to show the visa, the new one to get the new Admitted to Stay stamped inside.
