TLDR : Answer Summary
The STV visa (Special Tourist Visa) application does require proof of accommodation upon entry to Thailand. While some individuals reported being required to book a hotel for three months, others indicated that providing a confirmed apartment rental contract alongside evidence of payment is also acceptable. There are discussions about the longer-term tourist visa that can extend to nine months, and whether prepayment to accommodations is necessary. Several comments suggest checking local regulations and contacting the embassy for clarity on visa requirements and accommodation proof.

Confirmed apartment contract and perhaps evidence of payment works. That is what I used and was fine

Check with your local embassy

What I have read is “fully paid” and I understand that they want you to pay the full amount, ie if you stay 3 months fully pay 3 months

Also they are asking for the tax ID info of where you stay

They have been having a crackdown on thais renting rooms making money and the government not receiving tax

This started Thai apartments advertising on their apartments “no foreigners”

Thailand is going downhill in many ways, foreigners who have been living in thailand for years and or regular visitors have been leaving thailand and choosing other Asian countries to live, and the government do not care as they love & prefer Chinese tourists that normally come on package tours

What city or Provence do you want to stay in? If Chiang Mai, DM and I can you some leads and contacts that could make that happen for you. Nice condos as well.

The conditions of the STV allow for the leasing of an apartment when you provide details

Question. How about the longer term tourist visa, the one that can be extended up to 9 months and can't be renewed or converted after that? Not sure what it's called. Do you have to book a hotel or apartment for the entire stay in advance for that visa too? Does it have to be a prepaid and non-refundable booking?

It won't work for STV with booking.com if it's written "pay on arrival" as it is the case with most hotels on booking.com. Just find one where you can pay online and then show a proof of payment for the visa.

Is a refundable booking ok? Eg non-paid hotel booking on booking.com or similar?

i think if it says booking confirmation on it, it should be fine. I've come in on an OA visa, and although I gave an address of where I'll be staying after ASQ, no one has asked to see proof. But each visa does have slightly different criteria.

i'd like to ask you

1) for entry, have you paid one way ticket or a round trip tickets?

2) TM30 still required?

Thx in advance

it depends on visa. I have OA so one way ticket is fine. And yes after ASQ accommodation TM 30 must be completed. For entry only needed ASQ confirmation letter.

if you're staying for 9 months, do you have to book and pay for a place to stay for the entire 9 months?

Nick Olai. The initial visa is for three months. It has the capacity to be extended a further six months (2 x 3), so the initial application only has to show accommodation for the first three months. I am unaware if further accommodation must be shown for the extensions

I think if you have confirmation of apartment booking, should be OK.
