TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster, an American who has been in Thailand for 20 days, inquires if they can return after a 5-day trip to Cambodia. Responses from the community suggest that reentry is generally possible but not guaranteed. Recommendations include having proof of accommodation, onward travel, and sufficient funds available in cash (20,000 THB or equivalent). It was also suggested that applying for an extension of stay at an immigration office might be a more straightforward option to avoid uncertainty on reentry. Several members also debated the efficacy of using agents for immigration processes.

If that's your only history of being in Thailand then there should be no trouble.
As mentioned just make sure to have the 20,000 thb or equivalent in cash.
If you have a longer history you can always consult with our team, or hire us for prescreening services.
Agreed- at this juncture he Does not need an agent. He was back in the USA for 6 months, the shit resets when your gone that long. No need for an agent.
Really? You can "openly bribe police" here? Been here 12 years, haven't seen that myself. Prostitution -- wow, I guess Thailand is the only place in the world with that. I'm still not sure what your point is? But, don't think I really want to know. Let's end our little discussion.
you act like it's the same but it's not. Thailand you can openly bribe police, tell me what would happen if u did than in any other country? Prostitution is illegal here, yet how many shops are there?
You can act all high and mighty, but this isn't the west. This is Thailand and it's how things work here. You can bury your head in the sand and pretend you arent contributing to it, but you mere presences in this country contributes to it.
Again, SO WHAT. I was from Chicago, where Political Corruption and Graft have always been a part of life. But I didn't choose to be a part of that, and indeed, put my neck on the line and fought against it several times.
That was a real nonsensical reply. Even if I went to a Bar where they were allegedly paying "Protection Money", I neither know that nor am an active participant. On the other hand, if you know your "Agent" is using money to pay Bribe, then you are a participant and equally liable for the criminal conduct. Either way, AGAIN the point is, an Agent is not required no matter how you enter the country -- especially Visa Exempt. How deft can you be to require an Agent for that?
hope you don't go to any bars then cos they're all paying "protection money" to the police. You wouldn't want to support corruption.
Most do, but you can also have issues, especially those who abuse the visa exempt system. You're over 50 and had retirement visas you don't fall into a category where immigration bother you.
Hate to break this to you -- there is Corruption everywhere. So what? Maybe you think its ok to participate in it, not me! Either way, per above Posts, it is NOT necessary. You can get along just fine with No Agent, and No Bribe.
Are you suggesting that it's ok to use an Agent, for purpose of Bribing corrupt Immigration Officers? Sorry, but I am NOT ok with that. And, anyone who knowingly does that, is just as corrupt (and criminally liable).
BTW -- Are you suggesting that it's ok to use an Agent, for purpose of Bribing corrupt Immigration Officers? Sorry, but I am NOT ok with that. And, anyone who knowingly does that, is just as corrupt (and criminally liable).
please what was the point of that last statement? 40+ million people a year fly into Thailand, 99.99%+ don't use an agent and have no issues. So what's your point, I did something most people do without issue.. Wow...
You have no experience using an agent and haven't needed one, so why comment on them??
You "got me" there! And, therefore No Experience, wasting my money on something/someone absolutely not necessary ... since, as indicated, never had a problem doing it myself.
Done Border Run many times with ZERO problems, and No Agent. Likewise have received Retirement Visa/Extension several times with no problems, and No Agent.
didn't a couple big wig immigration officials get busted a week or so ago for facilitating visas for Chinese businessmen who were running businesses illegally?
so no I don't believe it, I know it's a fact having witnessed myself. Um by chance do you know why there was a crackdown on Ed visas? Hint - immigration officers taking bribes.....
so you've never done a border run? The immigration officer called over the companys "guy" and problem was gone. Idk what wonderland you live in but it 100% happens
Apparently, you buy into that nonsense. Sorry, but I don't believe you will find too many Immig. Officers influenced by $$$. And, from my personal observations, I don't see many Agents helping things go any more smoothly.
I moved out of Thailand and back to the United States last July. I came back here on a one-month trip. I'm not trying to live here again. It's just a vacation. I also legitimately have my onward ticket showing that I leave Bangkok and go back to Los Angeles on February 15th

Highly recommend to enter with agency. Stress free
As you'll appear to be a tourist, likely yes with no issues.
Best to have the 3 proofs in any case:
hotel booking for a few days & onward travel reservation within 45 days, & 20,000 thb or equivalent in $ Ā£ ā¬ in CASH is needed.
Especially if your onward ticket is returning to USA, you should be fine.
YMMV

The answer should be yes but as mentioned before, never guaranteed and it would just be better to do an extension NOW at immigration and donāt need to go out and inā¦ easy, 1,900 baht. Any province of Thailand. Get a proof of where you live and fill the extension form. They will help you at immigration (normally). Get a passport picture, maybe a copy of your passport, you never know what they can ask but should be easier then flying out.

Why not just get an extension of stay from an immigration office - unless you have plans already in Cambodia?
I don't want to get an extension stay as I won't be in Thailand for more than 45 days.

There's no way to answer that. It depends on your travel history, number of covid extensions, previous visas and how the immigration officer you get feels that day.
The best you can do is make sure you have the 3 proofs and if you have a lot of red flags you can pay for an agent VIP entry to ensure they let you back in.
