ORIGINAL POSTER
has anyone recently had any issues on a single entry 30 day visa upon arrival after a long stay in Thailand? My boyfriend has been travelling since March and has used up two land crossings. Can he fly out and return instead?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the possibility of their boyfriend, who has been in Thailand since March and has used up two land crossing entries, flying out and returning on a single entry 30-day visa. Community responses highlight that while it is possible for him to fly out and return for another 30 days, he may face scrutiny from immigration due to past visa entries. Additionally, it's noted that he might consider obtaining a 60-day tourist visa from a neighboring country. It's essential for him to carry proof of funds, onward travel, and accommodation to present if questioned upon re-entry.

If he's gonna fly out and back to try to get in on a new 30 day visa exempt entry stamp he should have the 3 proof ofz with him in case he's asked when he stamps in

proof of funds (20k baht or the equivalent in CASH)

proof of onward travel (within the number of days he's getting stamped in for)

proof of lodging

He can be asked for any of those things and IF he's asked and can't provide it he can be denied entry

All he can do is be prepared and hope for the best. Those 30 day visa exempt entry stamps are NOT designed to live here on and immigrations is cracking down on people doing it.

Seeing as he's already burned thru his TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land (which are the safest ones to use) he's either going to fly out and back in OR he's gonna hafta go to a thai consulate in a neighboring country and BUY a single entry tourist visa.

Assuming you mean "visa exemption", Yes, there's been reports of people being rejected at the airport because the government believes they are working.

1. Assuming he's from the UK, He can fly out and return. It will give him another 30 days. He may get stopped and rejected though by immigration. In theory, he can do that unlimited times.

2. He can cross into Laos by land, purchase a 60 day tourist visa, and then return by land from Laos. The border between Thailand and Laos are considered to be extremely friendly.
