What should I do to ensure I can re-enter Thailand after traveling to Vietnam on a tourist visa?

I came in under a 60 day tourist visa from Cambodia which expires on June 6th. I was going to extend it another 30 days so I have until the end of June to leave Thailand. I want to fly to Vietnam for 2 weeks sometime in May. What hoops will I have to go through to come back in the Thailand and will my extension be okay we'll have to pay any additional fees?

I am moving back to the United States at the end of June and just want enough time to get all my affairs in order and sell my personal belongings before I move.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about re-entering Thailand after a trip to Vietnam on a 60-day tourist visa that is set to expire. Comments suggest that leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit may void the current visa or extension, and that they could instead consider a visa-exempt entry upon re-entry if they visit Vietnam. Additional considerations for traveling during this time include possible requirements for a TPASS and COVID insurance.

You will still need a TPASS

and Covid insurance

Forget about the extension and the re-entry permit. Go to Vietnam and just re-enter visa exempt. If you need more time once you come back you can get a 30 day extension to your visa exempt entry.

You’ll be fine, Fonz.I don’t know why so many people are being so uncool by worrying so much. You the Fonz. 😆

I don't know why you keep saying "re-entry"

Stop talking about re-entry because you don't need it and it doesn't apply to you.

You leave Thailand, everything you have visa related is done the moment you leave.

As an American you can enter Thailand any time without a visa and this is called visa exempt which gives you 30 days every time you enter Thailand.

so let's say I leave on May 30th. I stayed there for 2 or 3 weeks and I can come back on June 20th for example. Get a reentry Visa exemption and have one week to move all my stuff out of my condo?

Thought I saw you'd done this recently, so doing it again?

yes, I can see going out, back in, and out back in might need advice. I guess go out come back visa exempt for 30 days, as has been suggested?

The visa is for one entry (unless you specifically got a multi-entry in the first place). If you leave Thailand you will need a new visa to re-enter (unless you qualify for Visa Exempt entry of 30 days - you will if you are from USA).

that's what I want to know for sure. I have never left Thailand then returned and then left the country again in such a short time span. I could of course fly from the United States and it's only about 500 bucks round trip from LA but I would rather go while I'm here because it's only an hour away.

you asked about re-entry. I guess its same as you've done before apart from the fact you've just gone out and come back in. That may be an issue.

you probably saw my post where I wanted to go to Vietnam but at the time I couldn't enter so I went to Cambodian instead. That was a month ago. Now I want to go to Vietnam before I move back to the United States.

I assume you meant a 60 day tourist visa. If you leave Thailand without a reentry permit any visa/extension you currently hold will be void.

I’m not 100% certain they’ll issue reentry permits for short term visas/extensions.

The 30 day extension just allows you to stay in Thailand an extra 30 days. If you leave it finishes immediately. Whether you can get a reentry permit with that 30 day extension allowing you to leave and come back (they’ll stamp you in to the date you have in your passport) is the unknown part. They do for long term visa or extension holders. I’m not sure they will for short term stuff.

or mabye just get a visa exemt when you come back? If your country is on that list. I can get 30 days at the border. Worst case just apply for a new tourist visa

so getting a 30-day extension is not the same as getting a reentry permit? So what you're saying is I would have to apply for some sort of reentry permit then?
