I am about to apply for a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa in the UK..I believe that this will give me approx 2 years in Thailand without having to have any money at all in a Thai bank account.? If at the end of the life of the visa I then return to the UK for a short holiday can I repeat the process and get another Non-Immigrant O-A visa ? - Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa from the UK, which allows for approximately two years of stay in Thailand. After this period, you can return to the UK and, if you meet the requirements, reapply for another Non-O-A visa. It's crucial to apply for a re-entry permit if you plan to leave Thailand during your visa's second year to avoid cancellation of your visa. Additionally, options for extending your stay or renewing your visa depend on your financial situation and compliance with Thai immigration regulations.

Just a reminder with the multiple non imm OA you must buy a re-entry permit for the second year (if you exit the country during the second year without a re-entry permit your visa is cancelled).

Close but not totally correct the O-A visa would have expired on the 'enter before' or 'valid until' date :O

BUT

you are correct
@R**
, that without a re-entry permit they would cancel their admitted until entry stamp IF they left during that second year.

May i ask after the second year,

What need to be done in order to continue staying in Thailand?

Is it to reapply a new O-A non immigrant visa all over again?

Or we can exit and enter again to get another 1 year?

On this O-A visa, can we stay in Thai permanently?

Proof of income, certified copies of bank statements, medical report, Police criminality report, - I'd call those hoops..?

@Steve ******
If you can satisfy the financial requirements for an extension then you'd probably not bother jumping through the hoops for an OA visa though...🤔
Steve *******
@Glenn ********
Or you could apply for a 1 year extention of stay

@Li **********
after the second year is used you can either return to your home country and re apply for another OA visa or if you have the right financial requirements fulfilled in a Thai bank you can apply for an extension of stay based on being over 50. Lots of posts on here to tell you about that process.
Glenn *********
Li Sean Loy you leave and return just before the OA expires..on re entry you get stamped on for another 12 months.. not sure what happens if you leave in the second year when the visa has expired though..🤔

After the end of the second year stamp you need to reapply for an OA visa again..outside of Thailand.

It's a bit of of a mission to get this visa but still a decent option. I did this a couple of years ago from the UK ( retirement visa) you have to show proof of income, get a police check done, medical done ( prove you don't have lepracy and few other ancient illnesses lol) some people I spoke with had aggravation getting this done. I was charged £100 by a private doctor 😳 others a lot more, some a lot less. Then you have to spend a night in London ..dropping off then picking up your visa. Make sure you get to the embassy early, the staff inside can be really abrupt and rude. Don't bother calling the Thai embassy in London, they never answer..i think the cost of the visa itself was about £150 , don't forget you will need multiple copies of everything as well lol, you know anything to do with Visas and Thailand, it's not possible to store anything on a computer for future reference 😁

You can apply by mail, no overnight in London needed. We do not advice what we think it is, we use facts. Thanks for this nice story.

It’s definitely the way to go, I have been researching Visa’s for a while (I leave Thailand soon back to UK, but needed advice on the best way to go for my return, as not married and dare not try another tourist visa as have had 6 in 15 months) 🙏
Christopher ***********
Do you need to apply for a reentry permit for the second year?
David ********
@Christopher **********
Chris if you keep ignoring my calls and messages why don’t you just go a head and block me simple as ???
David ********
@Christopher **********
why you not answer my calls ??? Or messages Chris ???

@Stuart ********
Many thanks!
Stuart *********
Christopher Kilcourse yes. The first is multiple entry. The second is conditional upon getting a rentry permit. Single or multiple depends on your travel plans

Give that man a gold star! I believe it is currently the best way to deal with the new financial requirements for extending your stay on the O-A while in country.
Scott ********
@Steve ******
Correct. But when it comes time to extend this is the better option.
Steve *******
@Scott *******
He's not extending it, he want's to get a new one but not "while in country"
Steve *******
Yep
Robert *********
definetly the way to go now

The visa is valid for 1 year and multiple Entry. If you enter Thailand just before the valid until or enter before date on the visa you still get 1 year of stay, meaning you can get almost 2 years of stay out of this visa. If you return to the UK you can apply, if you still meet all the requirements for a new visa.

@Tony *******
yes, I believe that you can only get the non O A Visa in the country where your passport is issued.
Tony ********
@Robert ******
Thanks! Makes sense now. And this only works if one applies in their home country right?
Coryn ***********
Thanks Robert. I’m not quite at 50 yet but will certainly keep in mind for when I am. Unfortunately the Thai Embassy where I live in Bahrain seem to have limited knowledge about the visa requirements.
Robert *******
@Coryn **********
It is a Non Immigrant O-A (long stay) based on being over 50 years of age, it is not a work visa or a tourist visa. You find the requirements on the website of the Thai Embassy in your country.
Coryn ***********
Hi. Could you explain the requirements to get the non-imm A-O visa? Is this a work visa or long term tourist visa?
Robert *******
@Bjørn-Are *********
Totally wrong, you get 1 year of stay with this visa on entry in Thailand.
Bjørn-Are **********
But you have to leave Thailand every 90 dsys ( border run) with a non-imm A-O Visa. And if you return, let's say 1 day before it expire. You will get another 3 months. Correct me if I am wrong.
Robert *******
@Tony *******
The visa is valid for 1 year. So lets say you get the visa stamped in your passport 1 April 2019 and is valid until 1 April 2020. You fly as soon as possible to Thailand and get 1 year of stay on arrival. You leave and directly come back into Thailand on 1 April 2020 and get another 1 year of stay.
Tony ********
@Robert ******
I don't quite understand how one can make this work out to be a 2 year stay. Could you elaborate please? And would it work with a US passport also?
