I have a multi O from the UK Thai embassy based on retirement. Multi entry O's are not available now. Is it possible to renew extend in Thailand. I travel 4 times a year for 2 months then a month in the UK with full travel insurance . OA is not possibly for me because of the new insurance rules. If not what are my options?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking to renew their multi-entry Non-Immigrant O visa for retirement purposes while staying in Thailand, and seeks options since OA visa is not feasible due to new insurance requirements. Other comments provide insights on the ability to apply for a one-year extension based on financial criteria at immigration offices, alternatives like O-A insurance, and considerations regarding the financial requirements for visa extensions.

You can buy the new insurance to meet O-A requirements. As your UK insurance may not cover you in Thailand.

Might prove to be the best option vs banking 800,000 Thb in Thai bank or run risk of denied entry with your many visits in and out of Thailand yearly.

Still cheaper than border runs...Elite visa...or other stressful choices.

And as we all await action reports of O-A visa holder arrivals...I close commenting.

agreed. Until then the cost of the O-A insurance with highest deductible is a Cost of retiring in Thailand. Surely not health insurance which I sold for 26+ years in the USA.

- For now I will opt for an Evac plan because as for now I am not required to buy insurance. But I'm betting that sooner or later all over age 50 on Non Imm Visas or Extentions of Stay will be required to buy insurance - it is just a matter of time. Then queues at local immigration will be much shorter.

I replied earlier to another...

Steve Cowell a tip...look at Pacific Cross O-A minimum compliant insurance plan...and look at the high deductibles available which reduces the premium significantly. Even have 100,000 ...200,000...and 300,000 Thai baht deductibles. Choose the 300,000 deductible on their basic O-A plan compliant...and you will be surprised at the LOW premium. I looked today and found at age 75 with 300,000 Thai baht deductible annual premium about 38,000 Thai baht. Leave my 800,000 Thai baht at home earning 2-3.9% interest its a no brainer for me. Check it out.

FYI...age 75

Pacific Cross O-A standard extra plus policy

0 deductible 77,788 Thb

20,000 ded 66,116 Thb

40,000 ded 58,338 Thb

100,000 ded 52,504 Thb

200,000 ded 46,670 Thb

300,000 ded 38,892 Thb

James 54,000 THB / year is a month's pension benefits for many. Not doable for those on limited incomes who also have preexisting conditions that cause out of pocket expense. Most people from the U. S. (with preexisting or over age 70) mostly need evacuation insurance to go back to Medicare or VA or both.

@Mike ******
FYI...they are issuing the policy with exclusions for preexisting conditions.

I had a friend apply...accepted with riders excluding known preexisting conditions. For him it was an added cost of retiring in Thailand as he has US coverage too. He got his issued quickly with Pacific Cross..At 54,357 Thai baht a year...its peace of mind for him.

Eight months in Thailand...means you live here in eyes of Thai Immigration.

Do yourself a favor and buy the damn Thai Health Insurance policy and enjoy the benefit of the O-A. Avoid the games and stress of possible denied entry.

Or bank 800,000 Th baht in Thai bank and come on Non O for 90 days and convert to Extension of Stay for one year.

@James *******
I understand but am only here for 8 weeks at a time with insurance cover. The extension of stay will be the way I must go.

You certainly CAN get a yearly extension by meeting the financial requirements of

800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension

OR

transfer 65K baht into a thai bank account in your name only from overseas each month every month for the preceding 12 months before you apply for the year extension.

Because you are from the UK you can no longer get the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter, meaning if you want to use the monthly income method you do international transfers every month for a year.

@Tod ********
I was hoping there was a way to keep/get the multi O. It will have to be the 800k then. Thanks

As not all Immigration Offices are using the same list with requirements and depending on country of origin of your passport there is a small difference is how to meet the financial requirements, the moste easy way is visit your local Immigration Office and ask the hand out with requirements for your situation
Robert *******
With the Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O visa you get 90 days on entry. At most Immigration Offices you can apply during the last 30 days (some allow 45 days) of that period for an 1 year Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age
John ******
But if he stays everytime two months in thailand and he can apply during the last 30 days of that period it will not be possible to ask for an extension of stay. Only if he is lucky and can aoply 45 days before it will be possible. I do have the same problem !
