Hello All… I was in Thailand for a year on a non immigrant O visa which has now expired. I am currently in the UK and am due to return to Thailand on 26th June, which doesn’t give me enough time to apply for a non immigrant O-A visa. If I return to Thailand on a ME tourist visa, is it possible to apply for the O-A visa once I’m in Thailand…..? Thanks in advance….

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they can apply for a Non-OA visa while in Thailand on a Multi-Entry (ME) tourist visa. It was noted that the Non-OA visa typically needs to be applied for at a Thai consulate before entering Thailand, as it requires certain documents, including health insurance and a medical certificate. The response suggests alternative options, such as entering Thailand on a single-entry tourist visa and then applying for the 90-day Non-O visa before seeking the extension.

you got the terminology mixed up 😕

You apply for an OA visa at the thai consulate in your country before you come here, that's the visa that requires a police background check, mandatory 100K USD health insurance and the medical certificate.

Just curious why would you come to thailand on a multi-entry tourist visa?

If you already had a Non-O visa/extension in thailand before, just come in on either a single entry tourist visa or a free entry stamp, get the documents bank letter, etc together, go to your immigration office and apply first for the 90 day Non-O visa and then after that the year extension.

With the new visa changes from the 1st June has the amount of health insurance cover changed for the OA visa ??

@Michael *******
no, none of those new changes have taken effect yet

the OA insurance is still 100K USD, and the last update was that it is expected to change later this year.

So far no announcement about it

Hi Tod and thanks for the response… My reason for coming in on the ME tourist visa would be as a fall-back in case I am turned down for a longer visa….

i see, you're unlikely to be denied for the in country Non-O visa as long as you meet the requirements for it at the office you're applying at

BUT i can see the logic in having it

I’m not sure I was ever eligible for a Non-O visa… (It was issued to me in the UK when I applied for a six month tourist visa. It may have been issued by mistake). I am eligible for the OA visa though. Can this only be obtained from my own country….? Thanks…

@Steve ******
right OA only in your country different type of visa than the O (either from the consulate or in country)

If you're over 50 and you bank 800K in a thai bank account in your name only you can get the O visa in country at the immigration office and then the year extension after that once the funds have been in the account for 2 months

Would coming in on a 30day Visa Excempt, and apply for the NON O in country still avoid compulsary health insurance? As I read once on TV.

@Klaus *******
yes, you will not need health insurance if you do the Non-O visa inside the country
