I've overstayed about 50 days and have to fly back to the US tonight, in about 4 hours. With apologies to The Kingdom, can I pay the 20k baht fine at the airport? My itinerary is CM to Bangkok to Quatar....so if I can pay at an airport would it be CM or Bangkok.

I know I'm in the wrong, but I'm able to pay and could use the advice all the same. Cheers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has overstayed their visa by about 50 days and is inquiring whether they can pay the 20,000 baht fine at the airport before flying back to the US. Community members mention that fine payment typically occurs when stamping out of the country. Airport immigration policies vary, and some suggest it may be safer to clear the fine at the Bangkok airport rather than Chiang Mai. Important considerations are discussed regarding the risks of being caught while overstaying and potential bans for future entries into Thailand.

Before people start telling what can happen, it does not matter anymore.

already left the country and it would be nice if he wants to share the experience in a new topic.

Good Luck
@Vin****
, just a question, seeing as it appears no one has a definite answer, can you tell us when you finally do pay your overstay fine where you ended up doing it? If it's too much trouble it's okay but it sure would be good to know.

and actually everyone, let's understand how the banning works on overstay situations,

IF you turn yourself in which is what you do IF you go to the immigration office, or present yourself to stamp out of the country by air or land, you cannot be banned unless you overstay for MORE than 90 days. You show up, pay your fine, get your stamp and are on your way, period, end of story.

The same cannot be said IF you get caught out inside the country while on overstay. You can be banned for 5 years on an overstay of ANY amount of time, (even a single day's overstay IF the officer wants to be hard core about it). Once they decide to pursue it;

you'll be arrested,

you'll be taken to IDC,

you'll see a judge,

the overstay fine will be waived,

you'll be fined (a small amount)

you'll buy your own ticket back to your country on a flag carrier,

they will charge you money to take you to the airport,

You'll get the deported stamp and get the black list banning stamp in your passport.

They will also give your passport to the cabin crew on the flight and you get it back when you hit the ground in your country.

So the short answer is DON'T overstay OR if you do DON'T get caught out inside the country on overstay before you can get to a checkpoint, clear the fine and stamp out of the country.

Good Luck all

, a consulate could deny a visa application but it's HIGHLY unlikely they would. I know people with multiple overstay stamps in their passports who get visas from consulates and come in on visa exempt entries. I'd say there's almost no chance this overstay will affect him returning to the country.

That being said next time he trys to get back in they could deny his visa application could they not lol all I was getting at is don't over stay its stupid

Won't help you today, but for future reference Qatar Airways now fly to CM, without the Bangkok change.

When flying internationally, we have gone through immigration at the regional airport many times. Probably will not work if flying a low cost, but should be OK with Thai or Bangkok Airways. Then you would get yr stamp in CM.

Good luck 50 days jeeze sounds like you did that on purpose and you can be banned after 10 days soon good luck sometimes even jail to

It’s 90 days if you turn yourself in for a ban

I think it could well be a years ban also.

Whatever you do chaps,make sure you keep your affairs in order.

More so if it’s visa related.
Trevor ******
Pretty sure a guy was banned even though he was only there an extra month they can do anything you know this right lol no excuse for 50days just throwing that out there

@Trevor *****
That chart is reliable and is also posted at all immigration offices.
Trevor ******
Robert Lagas don't no where you get your info but there's been posts about this before overstaying can get you in a lot of trouble they are cracking down so that chart is not reliable lol
Robert *******
Don't know where you get your information but it is:

Be careful on your way to the Airport. If there are any police check points on the way your passport might get inspected, especially if you're on a bus. If that does happen, just hold up the ID page and smile. That may well be all they want to see.

I think you aren't gonna stamp out in Bangkok because the Chiang Mai leg is domestic and you usually pay when you stamp out of the country.

Just allow yourself some extra time, you're not gonna get banned because you're turning yourself in (which is what you do when you go to stamp out at a checkpoint ;) ).

Be ready to cough up the 20K baht, get the overstay stamp in your passport and you'll be fine.

Well it depends... if he booked it all together then he will stamp out there and be kept in the international section of the air port and be escorted to the domestic flight. Its a really stupid and confusing system but happened to me several times when booking international flights from chiang mai (going through bankok).
