ED Visa question - Can I get a SETV after completing my 9-month Thai course if I want to stay longer? Or will Immigration be unhappy that I'm returning? Thank you.

Immigration won't care in the least, they're two completely different visas.

You'd go to the immigration office and cancel your extension of stay based on education, leave the country, go to a thai consulate and buy a tourist visa.
