ED Visa question - Can I get a SETV after completing my 9-month Thai course if I want to stay longer? Or will Immigration be unhappy that I'm returning? Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the possibility of obtaining a Special Tourist Visa (SETV) after completing a 9-month educational (ED) visa course in Thailand and whether this would cause issues with immigration. A comment indicated that immigration authorities are unlikely to have concerns, as the ED visa and SETV are distinct, involving a process of canceling the current visa and applying for a new one at a Thai consulate.

Thank you. I'm finding this whole process of working out the best visa options for our family of 2 adults, 2 babies (all Brits) so confusing. Appreciate the help.

Immigration won't care in the least, they're two completely different visas.
You'd go to the immigration office and cancel your extension of stay based on education, leave the country, go to a thai consulate and buy a tourist visa.
