Hi everyone! I have will have spent a year in thailand in April on a ED Visa (language learning). I’d like to stay one more year, but does anyone know if its possible to get another ED Visa for a different school/study (such as muay thai or hand to hand combat?) what are my options besides the DTV visa? Seeing so much mixed info online. Thank you!

Answer summary

The user has been in Thailand on an ED Visa for language learning and seeks to extend their stay for another year. They inquire about the feasibility of obtaining another ED Visa for a different course, like Muay Thai or hand-to-hand combat, and are looking for options beyond the DTV visa, amidst mixed online information. Community responses suggest that while it's possible to get a second year, they will need to leave Thailand and start anew with a new visa as extensions for non-university ED visas are limited.

Normally you can get a second year, but you'll need to leave Thailand and start over with a new visa because you can only get a maximum of one year from a non-university ED visa with extensions.

I appreciate your answer! Whats the best approach for that? Fly out to somewhere like malaysia or vietnam, apply for a new ED Visa at another school, wait for the approval then come back essentially? Or can I apply whilst currently here in thailand?

it would be best to consult with the school you choose on what process they prefer. Some might want you to apply for the visa at an embassy while you're outside Thailand and some might want you to just return as a tourist and convert. They're the ones that provide the paperwork so best to find out from them.
