Hello out there and thanks for providing this forum. If my retirement extension ends in Jan. (12) and if I am denied my renewel before that date, is it possible to do a visa run to Mae Sae or to Vientianne for a SETV on or before the 12th of Jan? I plan on going to CM Immigration in December when I arrive but want to have a contingency plan in case. I have a US passport. Thanks!

Answer summary

The user is concerned about the possibility of being denied a renewal for their retirement visa before it expires in January. They inquire if they can conduct a visa run to Mae Sai or Vientiane to apply for a single entry tourist visa (SETV) if necessary. Responses indicate that a visa run to Mae Sai is not viable for obtaining a visa, but going to the Thai consulate in Vientiane is a valid option for applying for a SETV.

That's what I thought. Thank you for confirming that, Todd.

To answer your question, yes, IF for some reason your application for a new yearly extension was not accepted you would have to leave the country on or before your current "permitted to stay until" stamp in your passport.

You could NOT do a visa run to Mae Sai <- because they don't sell visas for thailand there :/ You could get a 30 day visa exempt entry at that border OR as you mentioned go to the thai consulate in Vientiane and buy a single entry tourist visa

Why would you be denied a new yearly extension?
