Can I obtain a one-off 60-day extension on my one-year 'marriage' visa in Bangkok, or must I apply for a one-year extension directly?

Is there an option to get a one off 60 day extension on my one year ‘marriage’ extension or do I need to go straight for the full year extension? In Bangkok if that makes any difference.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Bangkok, you can apply for a one-off 60-day extension related to COVID-19 or for visiting Thai family. However, the COVID-19 extension is considered more favorable as it can potentially be renewed multiple times, while the family extension is limited to one instance. Alternatively, if you have the required funds for a one-year extension based on marriage, it may be simpler to apply for the full extension to avoid additional trips to immigration.

If you have the 400,000 Thai baht now in the bank as required...

Keep it simple...

Get the one year extension as married to Thai..

Avoiding added trips to Thai Immigration.

thank you...and if needed a 60 days family visit extension will allow time to fully top up his Thai bank account to 400,000.

You should be able to get EITHER a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 OR a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai Family.

My opinion is to get the COVID-19 related extension and save the visiting family related extension. You can get “Unlimited “ 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 (until the immigration officer says no), but you can only get ONE 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family

Thanks guys. I was really just asking for information on a single extension, I don’t need any more after that. Just didn’t want to have to deal with all the paperwork over the festive period so I will just use my one off ‘visiting family’ extension.

If you want to use your "one off" visiting family extension, remember that you can only get ONE extension per Non-O visa, it's not something you can use again.

My advice: The paperwork for both the 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family and the one year extension of stay based on marriage are very similar, excluding the pictures and the money requirements. If you already have the money seasoned, just get the one year extension of stay.

Thanks

I can’t really remember fully what I needed last time (it was my first extension) I thought there were copies of house books, photos at the house and my wife actually having to be there. I just wanted to do whatever makes it easy for me this week, money seasoned but do not want to do much… selfishly lazy I know but that’s why I asked

1900 baht each extention same for married get multi entry 4000 and have the year to play with

1. All extensions are 1,900 THB, regardless for the length of time.

2. A multiple entry re-entry permit is 3,800 THB. However, re-entry permits can not be acquired for a 60 day extension of stay based on UNABLE to travel due to COVID-19.

@Benjamin *****
if you look I say married all cost 1900 extensions, that's why say married and for multiple

And a bit of side note: if you go for Covid extension, better not say "need time before applying for 1-year extension". There was a report someone was refused the Covid extension to buy time to apply for Non-B.

He might (or might not) need to have a ticket out for a Covid extension, especially when he has a long-term extension already...
