I am from the UK and I'm married to my Thai wife I'm due to fly into Thailand on the 9th December I have no visa only the 30day what you would automatically get, we are planning to rent a property I'm over 50 and have a Thai bank account, when I arrive I will put in the required amount of bht 400,000 I believe, I also have my CRB document and have a set of fingerprints done at my local police station, I pick up my medical certificate on the 6th December.

My question is taking account of all the above I would like a married visa will I be able to obtain one in the 30 days I'm there I'm willing to do a border hope to give me more time we are staying in Chonburi where do I need to go to get this sorted and how ? Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK expat seeking a Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai national plans to arrive in Thailand on December 9th with only a 30-day visa exemption. They will meet the financial requirements by depositing 400,000 THB into a Thai bank account. The question is whether they can secure the visa in the short time available, or if a border run would be advisable, along with the necessary immigration office procedures in Chonburi.

Also, the bank accounts must be in your own name. Joint accounts are not considered for your visa requirements.....I also assume your Thai wife will use her Thai passport/ID card when she arrives....Unless she is already here...As Tod says don't stuff about. You haven't a lot of wiggle room considering holidays over the period....

No, only happens when you co-sign she is allowed. It is asked by bank, would you like to sign both before withdrawal or is one signature enough. My wife did not trust me, so we need both to sign.

Joint accounts are no problem for Immigration, problems is that the balance of the account will be divided by account holders. Simple said if the minimum for Immigration is 400.000 and you and your wife are the account holders you need a minimum of 800.000 on that account.

, okay, fly in to thailand, get the 30 day visa exempt entry, transfer the 400K baht into your thai bank account and then you and your wife IMMEDIATELY GO to the Jomtien Immigration office and get the hand out that lists the requirements so you can apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage for 2000baht.

The reason I say go immediately is that you need so many days on your entry stamp to do the in country conversion from a visa exempt to a 90 day Non-O visa because it goes under consideration before you go back and get the visa inked in. Don't dilly-dally around and you can pull this off without any problems at all.

why don't u just get the non o based on marriage in UK before coming here? It's really easy mate and u don't show funds or medical etc. It'll save u messing about when ur here instead of relaxing with ur family

@Tod ********
when you say transfer the money into your Thai bank account..

Do you mean from overseas?
Andrew ******
U don't need a medical certificate or police check to get the non O based on married to Thai. I recommend u get that visa before coming to Thailand

Be sure the bank account is in YOUR NAME ONLY...to qualify for the visa.

To get a marriage visa in Thailand the 400,000 thb must be in your bank account for 2 months before you apply.

Takes a little longer, but can all be done at immigration office and take several visits

NO, that is a requirement for the Extension of Stay, not for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National

Wow

if you like to convert the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry into the Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National, you can do this at Chonburi Immigration but you need at least 21 days left on your stay. After you arrive, next day is good, sort out that the 400,000 Thb is quickly sent to the Thai Bank account in your name and visit the Immigration Office for the hand out with requirements. You have a few day to prepare, if it takes to long you have to apply fist for the 30 or 60 day Extension of Stay to give you more time.

Unless they changed recently, it's 15 days in Chonburi

yes, it is. Do you have a marriage certificate from the UK or do you have the Thai version?

Why don't you just get a non o based on marriage before you get here?

@Craig ***********
you won't need them inside Thailand to get a yearly extension that's for sure

I don't pick my medical certificate up until the 6th December I believe it is a required document I don't have the time to do it !
