If this was in normal times again, could I ask if a over 50 U.K. citizen arrived in Thailand on a 30 day visa, opened a bank account etc with 800k baht, could he then apply for a Non O visa ? at the local immigration office Or would this have to be done in the U.K. ? Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the options for a UK citizen over 50 who arrives in Thailand on a 30-day visa regarding applying for a Non-O visa. While it is generally easier to apply for a non-immigrant visa before arriving, one can also attempt to apply locally after establishing a bank account and gathering necessary documents. However, opening a bank account as a tourist may present challenges, but it is often possible with some banks. Overall, the advice leans towards attempting the application process within Thailand if returning to the UK frequently is not feasible.

Ok, now we're getting into discussion about agents. I think this post has gone far enough. I'm closing comments.

Your challenge may be opening a bank account as a tourist

Chays William Brown Best chance. They may 'insist' that you have to buy their annual one off accident insurance policy. Some people do because they don't have any other form of cover.

There's no problem opening a bank account as a tourist; some banks don't want to do it, and others do.

Thank you so much Robert, makes great sense, just don’t know which one is the best apply for, I think the difficult way, he works abroad 30 days on and 30 days off and very rarely gets back to the U.K. and would just prefer to come here (don’t blame him)

If he works 30 days on, 30 days off, I recommend getting a single entry tourist visa, extended, with a re-entry permit, use one of the "30 days" to get a bank account and collect the documents, then leave, and then eventually apply for a Non-O visa on return.

More difficult way, go to Thailand without visa, get 30 day Visa Exempt Entry, organize the bank account and documents within 8 days to apply for the Non Immigrant Visa and when you approved, get new documents and apply 60 days later again for the Extension of Stay

If this were normal days, the most easy is to apply for the visa before you come to Thailand, get 90 days of stay and then have 60 days to prepare the documents and bank account.
