Is 30 days enough to obtain a Non-O visa in Thailand, or should I apply for a tourist visa before moving?

My husband and I will be moving to Thailand next month from US. We will be applying for the Non O visa once we get there and then apply for the spousal visa. Will the 30 days be enough time to obtain the Non O or should I apply for a tourist visa?

Thanks for any advice!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster plans to move to Thailand and apply for a Non-O visa along with a spousal visa. They are concerned about whether 30 days is sufficient to obtain the Non-O visa and are considering applying for a tourist visa instead. Responses suggest that the time required to secure the necessary documents, such as opening a bank account and depositing funds, is key. They may either rely on a 30-day visa exemption with a possible extension or opt for a tourist visa that offers more time.

Then it is gonna come down to how fast your husband can get the bank account open, get the 400K baht into the account and get to the immigration office to apply for the initial 90 day Non-O visa.

If they come in on a 30 day visa exempt, they can get one 30 day extension so 60 days to get it together to pull off the conversion.

OR

They can get a single entry tourist visa before they come here, get stamped in for 60 days and then get a 30 day extension after that giving them almost 3 months to do everything.

Thank you Tod. I think I will just do the single entry tourist visa to be safe. I want to get the account opened as soon as we get there but I know things can get delayed.

good choice, in the US he would apply for the visa using the eVisa online program at this link

He wants the tourism/leisure choice and selects a single entry

So he would be applying for a 90 day Non-O based on marriage to a thai? <- meaning are you thai? OR would be be applying for a 90 day Non-O visa based on being married to a foreigner who legally works here?
