Anyone know anything about getting the DTV if you have the money and *only* saying that you plan to learn Thai? Which I do plan to and far more seriously this time although I may not have to use the DTV

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) cannot be obtained solely for the purpose of learning Thai, as language learning does not qualify under the visa's activities. Alternatives like the ED visa are more suitable for educational purposes. Some users suggest that taking cooking classes, which can qualify for the DTV, may be a workaround if the intent is to remain in Thailand while pursuing language studies. Concerns about potential scams within the visa system were raised, especially regarding the motivations behind the DTV for leisure or non-serious educational pursuits.

No, it’s not relevant to the DTV at all.

Everyone here needs to relax. I know what he wants but he is not asking it correctly. Listen, just get the DTV for "cooking" so you can stay 5 years and you can study all the Thai you want. I think that is his true intention. Just FYI, all the Chinese are converting their ed visa into the DTV for "cooking." They cannot speak a word of Thai and they will not be able to cook. I would advise you guys to get the DTV because they will shut it off due to all the Chinese scamming the system.

Right… only Chinese scam the system. Xenophobic much?

No USians or other westerners would ever consider scamming, right?

first off, I am Chinese myself so I understand how my people work. 2nd, the westerners do scam but the Chinese do it at a different scale. They are always the ones that mess it up for everyone.

will they ever check our cooking ability because I will be far more BS about that than Thai language. I am still using the Thai I learned and regret not retaining more

@Munly ******
it's a leisure activity.

They don't care if you even do it.

Once you fulfill the qualifications and receive that visa there no follow up.

They are trying to boost tourism sectors and think that this visa will stimulate it.

Yeah its crazy but true.

@Chris ******
Aint about tourism.. It is about filling those beautiful condos in Pattaya and Bangkok that they built and very few are renting. Thailand has over $60 billion parked in empty real estate depreciating its economy.

@Munly ******
lmao, come on. Will they ever check my cooking?

So say you get a DTV visa for learning thai cookery. How long do they expect you to learn to cook for?

it seems u changed your post vs what you originally posted. I do agree there. 5 years is within ball park to get good at Thai but cooking??? 🤣

@Munly ******
I didn't change the context or content i mistyped a word. I guess you need it putting in simpler terms. Do you need to spend 5 years learning to cook? I can already cook Thai to an extent..

you are welcome to lose 450.- US Dollar when your application gets rejected. Learning Thai is NOT a prerequisite for the DTV

this fricking group guys lol. No unlike you guys some people aren't following the myriad of twists and turns on the whole DTV thing. Cooking and must Thai qualifies but not learning Thai? You can get Ed visas for Muay Thai too but it seemed this visa was maybe to simplify these kinds of "leisure learning" Activities from more serious education at universities and such. Yeesh
Janelle *****
@Munly ******
because Thai language doesn’t count. Just take cooking class
Brandon ************
@Munly ******
There are no twists and turns. Thai language has never qualified. You can look at the infographic posted by the MFA back in July about what the qualifying activities are, and those have remained the same for the past 4 months.
Pete *******
Try learning Thai cooking which qualifies for the DTV.
Elías ********
The DTV can't be issued on that basis. You can get it trhu soft power activities, tho.

How about do your minimal research before you post something? And maybe also post your passport number so it will be easier for immigration to reject your visa application since you already admitted you want to get it on a false pretence...

ywah way to assume I never wanted to like w lot of others. If anythijg my previous experience made me realize I should have done it earlier and during an easier time in my life vs the timing of it when I did

@Greta ****
Immigration don’t approve or reject visa applications. They are handled by the ministry of foreign affairs.
Brandon ************
Learning Thai is not one of the qualifying activities for a DTV visa.
Luit *****************
For learning Thai you should get ED visa, not DTV
