Hello all,

I have a question. I have dual Nationality: Italian and Brazilian. Have been in Thailand for a while. Now my tourist visa expires (I am using my Brazilian passport) I now want to go to Europe and use my Italian passport. Can I leave Thailand using my Brazilian passport and enter an European country from EU using my Italian passport? I plan to stay in Europe for a while. Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires whether it's possible to leave Thailand on their Brazilian passport (used to enter the country) and then enter an EU country using their Italian passport. Community responses confirm that this is indeed possible, with advice given to exit Thailand using the same passport used upon entry and to check in for the flight to Europe using the Italian passport to avoid issues with boarding.

You should definitely exit Thailand with the same passport you used when you entered Thailand

Immigration at the exit counters will see your Brazil passport detail on their computer

And NOW here comes what you need to know!

At the check-in to the flight, you must use your Italian passport!

Otherwise you might be denied boarding, because if you show them a Brazil passport, you would have to present a Schengen visa to the check-in staff

*** check in to the flight with Italian passport

*** exit Thailand with the Brazil passport

*** enter Italy with your Italian passport

Safe flight!

Brazilians don't need visa to Schengen countries up to 90 days but your point is valid, since she's a Italian citizen it's best to check-in with her Italian passport. Also, as you said the data on the immigration database will the the one corresponding to the Brazilian passport

I have employed Brazilian guest artists, and one of thm upon entry in Frankfurt airport got stopped and inquired about her financials and invitations from a Schengen citizen. I had to drive to the airport to confirm I would take care of her. . . . . If I were her, I would not risk it

Sure. If you are an Italian citizen you should enter Europe on Italian passport. It’s no problem at all and no one in Europe would care which passport you used in Thailand. They are no order officers and are only concerned about their own borders

You have to leave on the passport you came in with. You can enter another Country using any valid passport as long as you meet the requirements for that place.

No need to be worry , You can present both passports in EU let them decide what they wanna do , Because on Brazilian passport also you can get visa free access In Schengen zone and with Italian passport also . They will make exit stamp on Brazilian passport only because you already got entry stamp in Thailand .

if you are carrying dual citizenship then also one country can deny your entry if you are found suspicious. In Brazil many people have Italian passport just because of their great grandparents they never been there , sometimes it can create problems also.

no Schengen country can possibly deny entry to any citizen of any other Schengen country. That's the basis of Schengen.

Present the Italian passport, not the Brazilian one.

ok but with limitations, someone needs to assess entry, etc. Italians can travel through Schengen freely.

Present ONLY the Italian passport for Schengen.

there is no free travel for Brazilians in Schengen. There's no visa required but travel in the zone comes with requirements and conditions. As the OP also has a Schengen passport, that's the one he should present.

I’m suspecting they don’t have a tourist visa but entered under the 90 day visa waiver program offered to Brazilians, but there is no reason they couldn’t have a tourist visa.

The reason asking was bc I have a Brazilian friend who's coming over.

Then still the question remains, in what case does a Brazilian needs a tourist visa? For a period of stay exceeding the 90 days?

A tourist visa gives the applicant 60 days to stay on entry. Most Brazilians wouldn’t need that as they can stay on a visa waiver entry for 90 days. The only time it may benefit is if they were thinking of changing to another form of visa within Thailand (like marriage or retirement) and you can’t do that off a 90 day entry.
