Hello, I went with my American friend to Samut Prakan Immigration to extend her visa free entry for 30 days. After handing over her passport to the officer we learned that the immigration officer at Suvarnabhumi gave her the wrong stamp which gives her 90 days instead of the expected 30 days as pictured below. The person at the desk in Samut Prakarn told us to go to the airport to get it fixed and insisted that she cannot actually stay for 90 days.
So I have two questions, is this stamp valid for 90 days? If not, where would we need to go in the airport to get the correct stamp?
Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a situation where a traveler received an incorrect 90-day stamp instead of the expected 30-day stamp upon entering Thailand. Community responses clarify that the stamp is invalid for 90 days for US passport holders, who are eligible for only a 30-day entry with a potential 30-day extension. The advice includes going to Suvarnabhumi Airport to have the stamp corrected immediately, while emphasizing the responsibility of the traveler regarding overstays and associated fines.
The O/P messaged me. They said it took 40 minutes for their friend to get the stamp corrected
AND
They were given a stamp dated Jan 3rd, meaning today they're on 2 days overstay ๐ So they will pull a 1000 baht fine in addition to paying the 1900baht for their extension, not to mention the time it took to slog to Suvarnabhumi, get the stamp corrected and slog back..
I believe that the OP has the answers needed for their question.

Tod Daniels Just to clarify the advantage of a 90 day visa for Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru is based on a bilateral agreement signed between Thailand and those countries some time ago which also permit Thais to enter for 90 days. Not sure many countries are willing to sign such long stay permissions on arrival with Thailandโฆ although the latest rumors are that the Thai Government is looking at a 90 day visa exempt entry for Canada and US passport holders to bring in more moneyโฆ (for those asking โwhy not usโ)
that would be incorrect ๐ , There is no 90 day extension for anyone, and as a US passport holder that person should have been stamped in for 30 days, and they can get ONE 30 day extension from that entry stamp for 1900baht at the immigration office
The only people who get 90 days on entry are Russia (which is a special promotion), Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and South Korea

That stamp is totally NOT correct and your friend ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ต๐ฌ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐ just because they got stamped in wrong ๐
GO to Suvarnabhumi, get the stamp corrected, (shouldn't take you 15 minutes once you get there and go to customer service) they'll send an officer up and correct it..
BUT
keep in mind if they entered on Dec 5th they would have gotten a stamp good until Jan 3rd so they're on overstay now ๐ (or that's how my math worked it out)
Even if you're stamped in wrong you are responsible, so they will be liable for overstay fines (500 baht a day) when they go for the extension.
no matter what the IO does/does not stamp in our passport, it is up to the individual to check the passport before leaving the counter. Thankfully it seems to have been noticed (just) in time if the person can go to Suvarnabhumi today.
I have to add, donโt bank on the โit only takes 15 min.โ. I have tried it once where IMM told me that upon entering the officer forgot one stamp in my passport and send me to the airport to get it. It took more than 3 hours waiting ( along with other people who needed things fixed in their passports). Just so you know you need to have time to spare in case youโll have to wait like we did ๐๐๐๐
