TLDR : Answer Summary
The post asks if undergoing a tooth implant can qualify for a 5-year soft visa in Thailand, along with inquiries for good dentists. Responses indicate that while dental implants typically take 6 months or more, a comprehensive treatment plan could support a visa application. Some users shared experiences of obtaining dental visas and recommended specific dental clinics. However, there's skepticism about the visa process, highlighting that participating in dental procedures isn't a guarantee for visa approval.

Why not do a border run everytime you need a tooth pull out.

Should get at least 30 visas.

But might have trouble eating you steak in Thailand 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Maybe just follow the laws

They have a website outlining their serviced with price list. I sent them an email stating what work I needed, they responded back with that day - showing my schedule days for my procedure (6 visits) 2-3 weeks and the total cost.

They have 2 branches Head Office at Vibhavadi Branch and the other on Sukhumvit Sol 15 Branch. Best of luck

I had an implant done around 2-3 years ago at Bangkok Smile. The surgeon who performed mine was also a head trauma surgeon who fixed up muay thai, and traffic accident facial injuries so was very experienced.. Depending on where you currently are in the implant cycle you may need a year more in dentist procedures or you may require less than 6 months. It might depend if you have already had the old tooth extracted yet or not as this adds addition time until completion. After my old tooth was extracted, the bone required 4-6 months heal time. Then the tooth implant gets done. It then requires a further 4-6 month healing time before its strong enough to have implant fitted. If you have already had the tooth extracted and had the healing time then that may take your remaining time down for appointments to be around 6 months and in that case you may only need a 6 month METV. If you still require the full treatment that I had then your treatment plan can be spread over a longer period of time and might have more cause for having the DTV granted based on dental.

Of course. that's one of the explicit soft power reasons.

For those of you who think it's a joke, it could take a year or more of treatments:

Pull the tooth

wait 6 months

have implant surgically attached*

wait 3-6 months

attach new tooth

* if a bone graft is needed, that could be another 6 months

Grace Dental in CM will give you a letter with a full treatment plan.

My DTV was approved in 5 days.

I came and left 3 times before they could even do the implant surgery.

Immigration has never asked any questions.

the thing is...a person can do all the things you mentioned by travelling in and out as a tourist. There's no necessity to grant a 5 year visa for this. But then again, that's just my opinion. Thailand may actually grant the visa!

No. The thing is ..... this is EXACTLY what the DTV is for. People are getting DTV's for a month of muay thai or even a week in cooking schools. There's no proof that they even attend. You can even get it for attending a music concert. or just buying the ticket. I carry my receipts with me to prove that I've paid for the dental work I was granted the visa for. Dental implants take 3-5 treatments, each visit 4-6 months apart. Every case is different but in mine, it's a 20 month process. We first determined I'd need an implant in Sept 2024 and I won't be finished until May 2026. I didn't even apply for the DTV until I was half way thru the process in May 2025.

People can do a cooking class with a visa exempt entry. if I needed 5 visits for an implant, do you think it would make sense for me to fly back and forth to the US 5 times and do 5 visa exempt entries? Would Immigration even let me in 3 times in one year visa exempt. They want you to get a visa. This is the correct one.

i know several people who have been granted a DTV for medical reasons, some only needing a week or two. I haven't heard of anyone being declined.

If the Thai govt is ever going to crack down on DTVs, it's the cooking schools that will go first, then muay thai.

thanks for this input. I want to apply for DTV, was thinking to go the workation route as I'm a freelancer but I was also recently diagnosed with RA and I'm under the rheumatogist's care here in Thailand, hospital appointments and blood work every 3 months, x-rays every 6 months and a bunch of daily and weekly meds of course that are much cheaper here than in Europe. I wonder whether I should try to go under the medical route?

It may depend on where you are applying from since some embassies/consulates seem better than others, but based on what you wrote, if you got a letter from the hospital detailing the dates of your appts i would think you would be approved very easily for a DTV using soft power (medical) rather than proving freelance income.

thank you for this informative post! I was thinking of going the medical route but went for soft power instead as there are very few people posting concrete doctor recommendations.

Just chosing a random doctor often won't work as they don't understand the paperwork they should produce for a DTV application.

Implants need at least 6 months, from initial fixing, to final fixing with crowns. To allow the bone to properly fuse to the implant, before adding the tooth.

So, yeah, probably qualifies.

currently going through an implant and will get the actual tooth fitted about 9 weeks after initial screwed fitted. And that rushing it a little due to my flying out soon. Dentist advised that I might not be able to have it fully torqued down due to the short time frame.

Not sure how it was all done in two weeks, bone would definitely not have fully healed around the screw.

It can be 6 months from start to finish....

not rushing to save money, paid full price for the premium product. 3d X-rays several weeks ago show that all should be good for the last part.

I have only pushed it forward by a few weeks, dentist said that mainly as a disclaimer.

Standard is 3 months, can blow out to 6 if bone doesn't fuse well or rejection.

But this loophole is closing fortunately. And "Genuine tourists" can still have two 60 day visa exempt entries with 30 and 7 day extensions. Its 157 days in one year. Still very generous. More than that is not genuine tourism

while you are correct about the Extensions, Two Visa Exempt entries isn't actually correct. There used to be a limit of two within a year through Land Borders (not calendar year, but within a year, depending on when one had done previous entries), but that was removed. Visa Exempt entries through Airports has never had any limit.

Someone who uses two Visa Exempt entries and gets extensions, on their next visit may be refused at the discretion of the Immigration officer depending on previous entry history and whether the IO thinks someone is trying to live in Thailand, rather than being a genuine tourist.

Official statistics show that a genuine Thailand tourist spends 7-14 days in the country on average and doesn't maximise Exempt entries and Extensions. Those people have and most likely, will be granted multiple Visa Exempt entries within a year, especially if there's proof of returning to their home country for periods of time. As you said, two Exempt entries and those extensions, are still generous.

You generally need a fully outlined treatment plan, including scheduled appointments and planned treatments. The entire treatment should cover at least 6 months, if not longer. Without covering this time period, you would likely be given a multiple entry tourist visa instead of a DTV, as you don't need that much time in Thailand to finish everything.

depends on where you live

In Au I had to do the following

Written quote from OS dentist with details and itemised prices in the currency of your own country.

Letter from your Dr in own country stating why you are choosing OS option due to costs and availability waiting time etc

I went for early medical release request from my super. Once I had everything as they requested it was all sorted out with no issues.

This is only what I wanted to do but everyone’s situation is different to their needs.

I’m not sure where those “plenty of reports” are coming from. I’m speaking from recent first-hand experience: my DTV for medical treatment was approved with a single confirmed appointment, no 6-month treatment plan.

Requirements are applied case-by-case and vary by embassy. Presenting assumptions or second-hand anecdotes as fixed rules is misleading.

Sometimes real approvals matter more than online reports.
