Can I extend my stay in Thailand with a tourist visa by using a re-entry permit?

Sorry if it’s asked before as I couldn’t find an answer.

My tourist visa is valid for 90 days within issue to enter Thailand and allows me to stay for 60 days.

If I visit Thailand on the 10th day and stay for 20 days and get a re entry before leaving , can I enter again on the 80th day and stay for 30 days more ?

TIA for the answers ….

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is trying to understand the limitations of their tourist visa. They have a single entry tourist visa valid for 90 days, allowing a 60-day stay from entry. A commenter explains that after the first entry and stamp, which consumes the visa, re-entering with a re-entry permit does not extend the total stay beyond the initial 60 days. Any time spent outside the country counts towards this limit. Another commenter confirms this by clarifying their own understanding of the situation. Overall, re-entry does not grant additional time and must be within the original visa parameters.

My passport isn’t from a VISA exempt country.

So basically, what I understood is if I enter Thailand for example on 1st June with my Tourist Visa , getting an exit stamp of 30th July , and leave on 20th June with a re entry stamp , and come back again on 15th July , I can’t stay more than 15 days and I still have to leave by 30th July.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

@Ronnie *****
, what is your nationality exactly?

Basically, your understanding is right.

If you are not from one of 9 countries that are prohibited from tourism extension, you can apply for 30 days extension when you re-enter Thailand for the last 15 days, which makes it up to 45 days.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I hold an Indian passport and as I can see , I would not be eligible for the 30 days extension.

Thanks anyways and I’ll plan both my trips accordingly.

PS - Admin you can close this thread now if required.

Completely unnecessary if you're from a visa exempt eligible country. Just get your 30 day stamp, leave and when you return you'll get another 30 day visa exempt stamp. No need to fool around with the visa.

Or if you already have the visa just use it for your first entry and then visa exempt for your second entry.

well spotted (y) I was only looking at the question they were asking 😛 not the logistics or timing of their trip

k follow brandon's advice and that will work out fine for you

nope doesn't work that way

A single entry tourist visa is VALID for 90 days <meaning you have 3 months from the date it's issued to ENTER the country and when you do you'll get stamped in for 60 days and the visa will be marked USED

IF you want to leave and come back you would need a re-entry permit

BUT

that doesn't give you any more time than the original 60 days you got stamped in on.

You CAN'T stay more than 60 days and the time OUT of the country counts against the 60 days if you leave 😕
