What are the best options for extending a 60-day tourist visa in Thailand?

Hi guys.

Just after some advice.

Am in Thailand (am Australian) on a 60 day tourist Visa.

My plan was to study here and then teach English and do a Visa/borer trip to re-enter on a work Visa. However, I rejected my teaching placement and so now, I won't be needing, or able to get, a work Visa.

My current Visa expires in 2 weeks and I need to be here for at least another 2 months (on a pretty tight budget!).

I am in Phetchabun right now, but as of the weekend, will be based in Koh Tao (doing my Dive Master qualification).

I'm just after some advice as to the cheapest and most practical way to extend my Visa. Apparently not all Visa/border trips will give you a new 60 day tourist visa upon re-entering? So am not sure if I can just go to the Consulate and extend it for 30 days and then a subsequent 30 days?

Thank you in advance, I really do appreciate any help.

Kind regards,

Ryan

TLDR : Answer Summary
Ryan, an Australian tourist in Thailand, seeks advice on extending his 60-day tourist visa, which expires soon, as he plans to stay for an additional two months. He considers a visa extension at the nearest immigration office and potential border runs for further extensions. Community comments suggest a 30-day extension at the immigration office followed by border runs for additional stays.

As the border runs are limited to 2 times a calendar year you are on the right time. Get the 30 day Extension of Stay, it will be Jan 2020, then do a border run for 30 days, get the Extension of Stay, make your second border run and Extension,. You can stay till early May 2020. Time enough to start thinking about a visa.

Ryan, You should be able to get a 30 day extension of your tourist visa, but will maybe need to go to the immigration office nearest where your address notification Phetchaburi? After that you can do a couple border runs closest wherever you're gonna be (that allows them - some are very picky). - This is provided you haven't already done any runs. Your budget is another matter and not for this site. Good luck...

Thanks mate. I appreciate it. Re: my budget, I mentioned it because it's something I need to consider, for example, is cheaper doing a Visa/border trip to Myanmar as opposed to Laos.... and so on, so kind of was valid.

But all good, thanks for the advice.

You need to go to Thai embassy or consulate to get single entry tourist visa which gives you 60days upon entry. At any border / check point, you can enter (bounce) only visa exempt entry for 30 days if you don't have valid visa in advance..

Hi
@El***
,

Thank you for your advice. I am already here in Thailand though.... so yeah, think I might do as the others have suggested and extend my current Visa by 30 days and then do a border jump if need be to obtain another 30 days.

Thank you all the same. :)

You can extend it now for 30 days, then do a border run and you get another 30 days, which you can extend for 30 days

You will get 30 days visa free entry. That extendable 30 days later.

Please wait admin comment.

Hi
@Si***
,

Thank you for the info!

So to confirm, I walk into a Consulate now and extend it for 30 days (though with that, I need a confirmed address?). Then, once that 30 days expires, I can leave and re-enter on a 30 day tourist Visa which can later be extended for a further 30 days?

....just confirming as I thought in Australia they only issue you with a 60 day tourist visa, or does that change because, even though I am Australian, entering from a country other than Australia dictates which Visa I am entitled to more so than the country on my passport?
