Hi,

does anyone know if you can enter with an eVisa (Tourist TR) over a land border or seaport?

I mean, in theory, you are supposed to enter your flight details when applying for the eVisa, so not sure if the eVisa requires entry at an international airport or if they don't care at the land border offices.

To be more specific: has anyone entered with a Thai Tourist eVisa from Langkawi to Ko Lipe?

(the question is not for me, I am a German, but my wife is a Dominican Republic citizen)

Thanks, Chris

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can enter Thailand using an eVisa (Tourist TR) at a land border or a seaport. When entering at such points, it is important to print out the eVisa approval email and present it to immigration officers. You should also show proof of departure from your home country. Entry via land borders is considered a valid entry point.

just so you're clear it's not a sea entry, you stamp IN to thailand on dry land and that IS a valid entry point to thailand so no issue at all entering on eVisa there

This happens often when someone has applied for the Thai tourist visa online using the Evisa online application system and the Evisa approval happens after you have entered Thailand.

YES...you can enter Thailand with an Evisa received using the Evisa online application system.

PRINT OUT the email you received and show it to the Thai Immigration Officers when you seek to enter Thailand.

The Evisa is ONLY available when you are in your home country and show PROOF of departing from your home country to Enter Thailand.

I just read the E visa info from the Thai embassy and I didn’t see it say you must be in your home nation. I’m currently in Europe and I’m a US citizen. I booked a flight from Portugal to Bangkok and planned to apply for the E Visa a month before my flight. Are you saying I have to be in the US to apply?
Michael *******
Ok. So just enter on my 30 day visa and extend if I want to stay longer? I haven’t booked an onward flight as I wasn’t sure how long I’ll be there

you can try to get the METV multiple entry tourist visa using the Evisa online application system... but if it's denied, you lose the visa fee...

you have to show PROOF of your FLIGHT DEPARTING the USA to Thailand to obtain the METV multiple entry tourist visa using the Evisa online application system.

Without proof the Evisa online application system will reject the application.

As you are now outside of the USA, you can apply for the Thai SETV single entry tourist visa from a Thai Embassy or Consulate in the country where you are now.

Thank you James for your quick reply, much appreciated. Yes, the theory is that you shall apply from your home country (which we have done) but the question is more, how is the reality when entering Thailand (as we are in Malaysia already in the meantime)? Can you enter at land borders or seaports arriving from third countries as in this case it would be, coming to Ko Lipe from Malaysia? Or only through international airports?

YES... PRINT OUT the Evisa email you received and show it to the Thai Immigration Officer.

You will be stamped in for 60 days.

And that can be extended for 30 ADDED days one time at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

Note that the METV multiple entry tourist visa is valid for Entry into Thailand for 6 MONTHS FROM THE DATE IT IS ISSUED... NOT 🚫 from the DATE YOU ENTERED Thailand.
