Can I enter Thailand visa-free and extend my stay on the same day if I arrive in Bangkok from Vietnam?

# Hi, I am currently in Da Nang, Vietnam where there is no Thai embassy and consulate. Would it be possible to get a visa exemption when I arrive at the airport in Bangkok and then purchase a 30 day visa extension on the same day from the airport? Any advice is welcome! (I hold a British passport btw). Thank you and happy new year! :-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can enter Thailand visa-free as a British passport holder and are eligible for a 30-day visa exemption upon arrival. However, you cannot purchase a visa extension at the airport; the extension needs to be done at a local immigration office in Thailand. Extensions can be applied for up to 30 days at your local immigration office, and it’s generally advised to apply for the extension a few days before your current exemption expires.

You may need to go to immigration in the last week of the visa excempt to get the extension.

Else the 60 day touristvisa would be redundant.

The extention is added to your existing stay regardless of what day you extend. You dont lose any days by extending early.

As a British passport holder you get a 30 day visa exemption which can be easily extended for 30 more days. Cost 1900 THB at your local immigration office.

But at most immigration offices only if your accommodation has filed a TM30 for you (which Airbnb generally refuse to do, but hotels do)

all air b nbs I used have done so. I always contact the owner before booking that they will do so. Also some listings detail they will provide the TM30. I know there are some shady ones who don't but there are many that do.

I have had good luck with the Thai Embassy USA being very flexible with issue visas while not being in the USA. That process takes a couple of weeks. I don't know where you're nationality but perhaps your home country's Thai Embassy are equally flexible.

You can enter without a visa (visa exempt) and you can purchase one 3p day extension at an immigration office that serves the area where you live in Thailand. You can't buy at the airport
