Can I bring my emotional support dog on a repatriation flight to Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi! I’m expected to move to Thailand either at the end of the month or beginning of August due to work. I’m in the process of getting my paperwork. I was told that I might need to take a repatriation flight to move there, due to lack of commercial flights allowed in Thailand at the moment. I want to bring my emotional support dog with me in the cabin, which is possible in commercial airlines. Does any of you know if that would be allowed in a repatriation flight?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is preparing to move to Thailand for work and inquires about bringing their emotional support dog on a repatriation flight, due to limited commercial flights available. Comments highlight various concerns including quarantine restrictions for pets, the eligibility of foreigners with work permits to enter Thailand, and the different airline policies regarding emotional support animals. It is advised to check directly with the airline and relevant authorities regarding pet travel requirements and regulations.

The dog will probably require a covid test . And make sure there are no emotional support cats in your row.

Wendy - I just wanted to say I'm sorry you've had to put up with such a torrent of vile abuse for asking such a harmless question. For some reason people get off on attacking others with views they consider 'inferior' to their. It's basically another form of bullying and we all know that bullies are basically cowards and deeply unhappy people but it doesn't make it less upsetting to be on the end of. I hope you manage to travel safely to Thailand with your dog. Just wanted to wish you the best.

Thailand doesn’t even recognize service dogs...any dog entering Thailand has to have permit from department of livestock development, certain vaccinations that US doesn’t require...certain breeds aren’t allowed in at all....don’t depend on the airlines to know what the regulations are

Emotional support animals are US only...Americans with disabilities act only works in the US

I'd ask the airline. It's likely more down to them than the consulate, although would be no harm to ask them also. Could you deal with your dog going in cargo if that was the only option?

As far as I'm aware the flights are basically "normal" flights, I don't think they are government charters but are run by the airlines as scheduled flights, just with a highly restricted passenger list managed by the consulates. Reports from people who got them, they were given the authorisation (Certificate of Entry) from the consulate but had to book the flights themselves directly with the airlines, they didn't go through the embassy for that.

it does seem strange that if u need an emotional support dog that u would be planning to move to a foreign country for a new job-- stay home and get well. also, though I'm sure this isnt you, some people use the whole " emotional support dog" as a scam to get free transport for their animal.

I don't think an emotional support dog gets to travel free or without all the entry requirements-it just gets to travel in the cabin instead of the hold. Some owners designate their animal as needed for emotional support to prevent the animal having to experience being alone in the hold

I am in Thailand now. Yes this incident caused some panic (big overreaction in my mind) and the Thai news is publishing some wild stories. But if you follow the government announcememts nothing has really changed. Repat flights are arriving as normal - several reports from people arriving today. Commercial flights have been banned for a while so no change. Only change is they banned Egyptian military flights and auspended VIP flights (think private jets) until the rules are changed for those.

me too. And I wouldn’t necessarily call it panic. But an honest and accountable assessment by senior govt officials. I don’t think In any way repatriation flights are being interrupted by it. But she is also not being repatriated. She says she was ‘told by someone’ she might need to take a repatriation flight’.... that is much easier said than done. Especially for a non-national whom is actually not being repatriated

yes commercial flights have been banned and will continue to be banned for now. If you get a COE the only way to get to Thailand os through flights organized through the embassy. That is not necessarily easy (limited flights and some embassies propritize all Thais) but nothing had changed due to the event in Rayong.

Governments charter repatriation flights on behalf of its own citizens of its own country. Unless you are a citizen of the country where the flight is going to then chances of getting on it a small as they fill up quickly.
