Hi Everyone!

I want to fly directly to Phuket from the USA. Does anyone know what airlines do this? If I fly into Bangkok will I be able to find a connection? I am traveling with a service dog and don't want to give him up. If I find a flight to Phuket from Bangkok will I be able to take my dog onboard?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Direct flights from the USA to Phuket are currently not available. Most travelers will need to connect via hubs like Singapore. While traveling with a service dog is permissible from the USA, the regulations upon arrival in Thailand may treat the service dog like a pet, requiring specific paperwork and accommodations. Some domestic airlines in Thailand may not allow dogs in the cabin, and all passengers must be aware of quarantine rules if transiting through Bangkok.

I doubt šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø is considered low risk country by Thailand šŸ‡¹šŸ‡ thus 15 hotel nights in quarantine

Interesting read, as Thai Airways is broke, they promise alot but can barely promise BKK to CHIANG MAI. When it comes to making Reservations into Thailand use the official websites and not obscure FB post

good answer. if only these embassies would respond! šŸ˜”

I don't think there is a direct flight meaning Non Stop from the USA to Thailand. Once upon a time Thai Airways might have flown non stop LAX to BKK, loaded down and flying against the jet stream only a few planes can do that.
Linda *********

There is a non stop to Thailand by several airlines

you're asking are there direct flights non stop with a dog in the cabin? Then say you know there are non stop flights.

non stop from Seattle to bkk? what airline? no airline flies non-stop from US to bkk or anywhere in Thailand. lots of flights with stops, and from short to long layovers, or at least, pre-covid this was the case.

many tears ago, thai airlines flew non stops from LA and JFK to bkk -- lost a gon of money flying gas guzzlers Airbus 340-500's I think-- stopped the flights for a while, tried to sell the planes, no one wanted them, so for a while they flew again the LA-BKK non- stop flight. flight, but soon stopped it.

I flew it many times back and forth to see friends in the US. I flew business class and hardly worth it, no lie flat seats, but non- stop was nice.

I didn't mean non stop directly there.

That's what non stop means! No stopping.

so let me ask you. How would you fly to those cities indirectly?

"Direct Flight" means non stop I thought?
Garrett ***********
There aren't any flights directly from the US to Thailand, it's too far. You don't need a direct flight though, Phuket just has to be your first and last stop into Thailand (can't transfer from BKK).
Ben ********
@Garrett **********
you are correct but to be fair itā€™s not ā€œtoo farā€ itā€™s just that the FAA just banned Thailand from new direct flights, and the routes they used to have were not very profitable.

not sure if I can trust your information when you told me there are no direct flights to Thailand. I am going to Phuket from BKK, so I won't be leaving the airport and going to baggage claim.

@Li***
OK Linda, let me know how that works out for you...

No, you have to quarantine in Bangkok, and your dog can't quarantine with you.

Phuket Sanbox Model is planned to put in action from 1st July but at the moment it is still uncertain. Qatar and Emirates will have direct flights from major cities in the US (transit through Doha, Dubai).

a direct flight means no stop-over. Both Qatar and Emirates may have direct flights to Phuket via their hubs in Doha and Dubai but they are not direct flights from the US.

I know. I mean no need to transfer in Bangkok before going to Phuket.

Ben Miller, 8,259 miles from BKK to LAX. The Boeing 777-200LR is the world's longest range airliner with a range of 17,395km (9,395 miles). Too long now?

Hey so bringing your service dog to Thailand is possible but theyā€™ll basically be treated like a pet - they can fly with you in the plane and all that but you need to make sure you do all the paperwork / shots etc right ā€” going to Phuket is a good idea because they wonā€™t allow dogs, even service dogs in the ASQ hotels (from what Iā€™ve heard and read - since youā€™re not supposed to leave the hotel that means your dog canā€™t go to the bathroom basically what is the reasoning Iā€™m hearing).

I have a service dog too and am planning a move to Thailand later this year - there arenā€™t going to be any direct flights from the US to Phuket as far as I know - there will be 1 or 2 layovers somewhere. Make sure you look up the laws for wherever you layover is.

Iā€™m looking into a direct flight from Germany to Bangkok but either after the quarantine regulations are shortened or Iā€™m gonna have a friend or family member Fly first so that they can look after my service dog while Iā€™m in quarantine.

I have looked into getting a private charter but it is crazy fucking expensive like the cheapest one I found was $50,000 for the flight (but it was the whole plane lol and no problem for pets on board - if I was rich Iā€™d prob do it).

I found out that I can fly to Singapore and take a flight to Phuket from there. There are no flights until the morning. I read that I can be escorted by staff to an airport hotel and stay the night there until my flight the next day. It also said that an airport staff would escort me to an "appropriate facility" for my dog to answer natures call. It's almost too good to be true. I don't know how to verify it.
Juniper ******
@Linda ********
that sounds great - did you get that in writing from them or from a phone call? Maybe ask them to email you as verification - all you have to do them is make sure you have the right vet paperwork šŸ™‚

** theyā€™ll be treated like a pet once youā€™re in Thailand is what I meant ā€” but since youā€™re flying from the US they are allowed on the airline as a service dog - just make sure wherever you stop over that they can handle that you want to look up each individual airports rules and regulations - KLM is a good airline and so is Lufthansa if they offer flights (in terms of recognizing service dogs I mean)

All flights arrive either at 9:45 or 11:00 p,m, in Bangkok. I can't find flights to Phuket until the next morning. I am not sure how to find out if I can take my dog into one of the sleep boxes. Do you know how I can find this out?
Juniper ******
@Linda ********
well as far as I understand / as things stand right now - if you were to leave the airport in Bangkok you would have to go into an official ASQ hotel in Bangkok in quarantine for 14 days and your dog would have to go into a dog hotel.

If you donā€™t plan on leaving the airport you will have a hard time - there are no dog relief areas that I know of and no pet friendly sleeping boxes in the airport that I know of.

The other problem depends on the airline - I donā€™t know of any domestic flights within Thailand that will transport a dog (even a service dog) - I know Thai airways wonā€™t for example.

Thatā€™s why Iā€™m planning on leaving bangkok by car after I arrive. Itā€™s sadly very difficult šŸ˜•

However, I did a quick search and it looks like there are flights from New York to Phuket with a stopover in Singapore with Singapore airlines. Singapore airlines does seem to support service dogs so honestly I would find a potential flight that works for you, then contact them and ask them for more information (double check that the service dog would be allowed on both flights - to the US to Singapore and from Singapore to Phuket - double check if there any entry restrictions for Singapore and find out if there are dog relief areas at the airport in Singapore).

Then hopefully if your vaccinated you donā€™t need to quarantine in Phuket after July 1st

Direct flight into Phuket would be better
Becky **********
Most Thai airlines dont allow service dogs in cabin.
Michael ********
Probably via Singapore is your best option
Stuart *********
At this moment in time there are no airlines that will fly you from the US to Phuket unless you go via Singapore. Come July 1st that may change where at least 8 airlines are scheduled to operate from various routes. There are no direct flights as itā€™s too far, but you can opt to fly via various hubs. Sorry no idea on which operators will allow service dogs. Others here may have more experience.
