What are the policies for bringing a service dog or pet into Thailand for retirees?

I was wondering if anyone had brought their service (dog) into the country when retiring in Thailand and knows of the policies regarding bringing a service dog or simply a pet into the country?

Does Thailand even recognize service animals?

I realize Thailand already has its share of soi dogs and such, but wanted to ask this question specifically.

If I've misplaced this post on the wrong site, please accept my apology in advance.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the requirements and experiences related to bringing service dogs or pets into Thailand for retirees. Participants emphasize the importance of proper documentation, including vaccination records, and suggest consulting local veterinarians and Thai Embassy for specific requirements. It is noted that procedures may be similar for both service animals and regular pets, although additional documentation for service dogs may be necessary. Various personal experiences highlight that many have successfully brought their pets into Thailand without issues, while the requirements might vary depending on the pet's country of origin.

I brought my dog recently :) requirements will vary slightly based on origin country but if you happen to be bringing your dog from the US I went through the process a couple months ago.

Right not a problem bringing it in (you may need the vets Rabies shot paper) but taking it out can be depending on what country, the US is easy as they already have Rabies etc so you just need paper work from your vet here showing they are up to date.

Australia & New Zealand on the other hand it is hard but not impossible to bring in a dog (3 months quarantine) as they don't have Rabies & don't want it.

do they need a work permit?

kilos of dog biscuits, and a dog hotel....

Vets won't know.. you have to find out the countries requirements yourself and then instruct the vets to do accordingly .. bringing into the country is easy but your own country might require that you have extra vaccinations or an electronic chip inserted into the pet. As they are concerned that you may want to take your pet back home after it has been in Thailand for a while.. i brought cats here several years ago.. no quarantine here... flight costs are expensive for pets. You pay buy the animals weight.

you can make your post in Bangkok Pet Lovers or Pet Parents Bangkok, those groups have people who know the exact procedure.

I think whether it's a service animal or just a run of the mill pet, it's gonna be the same procedure to get it into the country.

He's taken care of many friends animals - albeit mostly leaving Thailand I'm sure he knows the incoming requirements.

Years ago it was very easy to bring our animals from Hong Kong - just need to make sure all the boxes ticked !

I can only tell you that I once saw a lady with a cat on her shoulder going through the green channel at Bangkok Airport so it must be easy to do. Ask your nearest Thai Embassy and ask what documents are required. Best of luck and hope it all goes smoothly for you. Maybe come visit our rescue dogs when you get to Thailand.

It's pretty easy to bring a dog to Thailand as long as it has properly documented vaccinations.

Talk to your vet, they should know best and it's their job to provide the necessary paperwork.

As it's also a service dog, there might be additional documents from your doctor necessary.
