Can I apply for an adult child with a disability as a dependent on my Thailand DTV visa?

I am wondering if anyone here has had experience with applying for a dependant on your DTV visa that is an adult child that has a disability. I know normally the requirements for a child dependant is under 20 yrs old, but I was told that as long as I can prove that I can financially support my son and have a letter from his doctor confirming his disability (since he can not work) that he can be approved . Any information would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about applying for a dependent visa for their adult child with disabilities on a DTV visa, noting the usual age restriction for child dependents is under 20. Comments suggest contacting the embassy for specific requirements, caution regarding the definition of disability by Thai authorities, and alternatives like applying separately under a 'medical treatment' scheme.

Ask the embassy, but better don't say "adult child" or they'll get confused. He's a dependant adult with disabilities.

Why not get yourself DTV alone. And then get a separate DTV for your son, not as a dependent visa, but instead under the “medical treatment” scheme of the DTV?

I did think about but the requirements seem more difficult. Documentation from our home country physician and the documentation for a Dr in Thailand. If that doesn't work out for him and now the rest of the family are already in Thailand on a DTV.

Anonymous participant yeah I’m not really sure which method would be easier, medical or dependent DTV. I would reach out to the embassy or consulate you’re applying to and ask them directly what your best option is with them.

That is so specific nobody here can answer your question. What you or his doctor consider to be a disability may not match what the Thai authorities consider a disability and even if it does they may still refuse to issue one. You really are going to be much easier getting a Thai Privilege visa in that situation

I know one can really answer. I was just hoping someone may have been through something similar to see if they actually got approved. I have thought as a last option we may have to do an Elite visa just for him.

Anonymous participant Someone posted a similar post recently; it should be in the threads and maybe have useful advice. There is flexibility with approval so not impossible to get a dependent visa for your son.

Suggest you put this to the embassy you'll be applying through.
