ORIGINAL POSTER
I’m over 50, British passport and would like to spend about 5 months of each year living in Thailand, so multiple entry.

One of my children, 30 years old with British passport, would like to live with me, maybe staying in Thailand longer than my 5 months..

Can applying for a retirement non immigrant visa include a visa for a non-Thai adult child?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The questioner seeks guidance on whether they can apply for a retirement non-immigrant visa and include their adult child, over 30, in the application to live in Thailand. The community responses clarify that adult children cannot be dependents under a retirement visa. Instead, the adult child needs to apply for a separate visa. Suggestions include obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) which allows for extended stays in Thailand, along with advice on finances needed for the retirement visa.

BOTH of you should make it as easy as you can and get the 6 month METV from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you two wing your way here.

That visa will give you both almost 9 months if stay (if you want it) in 60 day increments.

With the METV multiple entry tourist visa you will need to make One or Two BORDER BOUNCE to max the possibility of 9 months stay in Thailand

After that you can decide what visa/extension you Might want to switch to but METV's are the easiest to get IF you meet the requirements

Maybe you would need the 800,000 Thai baht in the bank before you could do that, or 65,000 baht a month for a year previous to your living here?

, No need for 800K in a Thai bank account if OP applies for his Non-O based on retirement in another country. But yes, he needs to have funds of 800K thb in a Thai bank account if he applies for an initial visa in Thailand at the local immigration office.

You cannot use the monthly income/transfer of 65,000 thb method for the in-country initial visa application or the very first 1-year extension application. You need to have banked money for them.

Sounds like he will need his own visa.

Foreigners can be dependent on a foreigner living in Thailand legally including retirement, only until 20 years old or over 50 unless a lawfully married spouse or disabled person who is in needs to be taken care of.

really can tag on another 50+ year old as dependent without marriage andwithout having to meet the 800k requirement for the dependent separately?

, You need to be married legally and Thai government recognizably. You need to provide proof of relationship with the dependent such as the child's birth certificate. You cannot be piggybacking 'anyone'.

Sorry, that part might be blurred because OP was talking about children.
