My husband and me are over 50 and we have 2 kids under 18.

If we want to apply for the retirement visa, what can we do with the kids visa? And do we need to deposit 1x 800k or 2x?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the options available for children of expatriates applying for a retirement visa in Thailand. The main points include the requirement of an 800,000 THB deposit (or 1.6 million in a joint account) for the retirement visa, and that children under 18 can apply for a dependant visa. It's noted that while children under 15 cannot be fined for overstaying, this does not exempt them from needing a visa/extension. Additionally, it’s highlighted that children can obtain 90-day Non-O visas linked to their parents' residency status.

You can apply for "Dependant visa" for your children. I've lived in Thailand since the age of 14. When my parents just got their retirement visa, they put me on a dependant visa, as I was underage and we had proof I am their child. But one can only be legally dependant on their parents' visa until the ripe age of 20.

ONCE the children go on overstay they can't get any visa issued inside the country until they exit/re-enter and wipe the slate, and as long as they're going to school here in thailand the school should supply them documentation to get first a 90 day Non-ED visa and then a year extension.

But you're right the children COULD get 90 day Non-O visas based on being related to someone (their parents) here on long stay (retirement) extensions (y)

indeed. But they didn't mention their kids were already on overstay... They asked what are the options visa-wise for the children.

No we are not yet in the country. I like to make sure I know the options before making stupid decisions (in hindsight).

Okay, let's sort out how children are viewed

Children under 15 cannot be FINED for overstay

and

Children under 18 cannot be banned for overstay

Now this is NOT saying that they don't need a visa/extension (like many people parrot) what it is saying is IF children under those age limits DO overstay there is no monetary penalty or banning

I know people whose children are on many many year overstay here and have no issues at all staying here.

BUT

Know once the children do go on overstay, they can no longer get any visa issued inside the country at the immigration office.

ok, thank you. So that would mean we could sort out our own visa and leave the kids for the moment. Then when it becomes time to sort out their visa, we should leave Thailand and sort out a visa outside the country. However, if we would leave after a year and come back in, will they just geta new entree visa on arrival?

Also, of they would attend a local school, what visa would then be applicable?

@Sonja ******
what's the nationality of the children, that controls the entry stamp

IF they attend a school in thailand they would get an education visa

will the children be studying?

There is an age limit where they won't get fined on any overstay. Not that it's the proper way to do things
