Hi everyone!

What’s the best visa option for our family to live in Thailand? My husband is 62 and can do retirement but I’m younger and we have a child. Thank you in advance. 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best visa option for a family wanting to live in Thailand includes the Non O visa for the husband, who is over 50, allowing him to retire in Thailand. His spouse and child can piggyback off this visa as dependents. Alternatively, if the child is of school age, an education visa could be considered, which would allow the mother to apply as a guardian.

Husband needs to look at retirement O visa options which you can do aswell if over 50 or look can follow him as a dependant/trailing spouse. Your child could also be a dependant or if of school age possibly an education visa which would mean you could also apply as a gaurdian.

thank you. Will this mean putting more money in Thai bank since we are a family?

funds are required for the visa but not dependants.

It is also possible to show 12 monthly deposits of 65k instead of 800k on deposit but that's probably only relevant when you come to extend in a year.

Marriage & birth certificates will probably have to be legalised & translated for use in Thailand, each Immigration office has slightly different interpretations if the rules.

Your husband can get a Non O visa based on being over 50. You and your child (under 20) could then piggyback off of his visa. If you’re already in Thailand you and your child would have to apply at an overseas consulate as most offices (if not all) won’t issue the dependant visa in country.

Thanks for the info.. Another question, with this type of visa- will I be allowed to work or start a business?

no you wouldn’t be allowed to work on that visa. You would need to apply for a Non B visa in order to work.

I see. Okay. Thank you so so much. I’ll look into this type of visa. I guess with our situation will be getting different types of visa and our child will be my husband’s dependent. Thanks again. 😊

Your child can be a dependent on either your visa or your husband’s. In reality until they turn 15 they don’t really need a visa as they cannot be fined or banned for overstay.

How old is the child?
