Seeing conflicting information while waiting for DTV to be approved.

On one hand, you are supposed to be in the country the entire time where you submit the application until the DTV is approved. On the other hand, I read that someone submitted the application in US and then travel to Thailand before approval using the standard 60 days tourist visa and then his/her DTV was approved while in Thailand.

Can I submit the application in US, travel to Thailand and wait for approval there?

Answer summary

The application process for a DTV visa generally requires applicants to remain in the country where they submitted their application until it is approved. Although there are anecdotal accounts of individuals applying from the US and later traveling to Thailand before approval, this is against official guidelines. Staying in the application country is crucial, as further documentation may be requested or interviews may be required.

No, you can't come to Thailand during the application process. These are the rules. While some people may have managed to do it in the past, it doesn't change the rules or the risk of being called for an interview in the US.

The official guideline for the DTV application process typically advises that applicants should remain in the country where they submitted their application until approval. This is because, during the application process, additional documentation might be requested, or you might need to attend an interview at the embassy or consulate. 🙏
