Tried searching but can't find the info.

Thinking about going to Laos to do my new 1 year dependence visa and have a few concerns and would like some advice please ๐Ÿ™

1. Is it possible to do a kids dependence visa there or only marriage visa?

2. Do they issue single entry or if you do it there do you then have to leave Thailand every 3 months?

3. Do your kids and/or wife have to be present?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
This thread discusses the process of applying for a child dependency visa while in Laos, specifically addressing concerns regarding whether it can be done, the types of visas available, and requirements related to family presence during the application. Key points include that the Non-O visa is available based on marriage or raising a half-Thai child, but only single-entry options are provided. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of having required documents ready for the application.

Pre-covid shit show the thai consulate in Penang used to issue year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas based on raising thai children with 200K baht in a bank account and just the thai birth certificate with your name on it, the mother's thai i/d and house book listing

Neither consulate in Lao issue year long, multi-entry Non-O's based on raising half thai children.

Seeing as you ARE married now why not just get a year long, multi-entry Non-O from the thai consulate in Savannakhet? That visa is valid for a year (even if you get divorced) is good for unlimited entries of 90 days, when the 90 days runs out go to the border, bounce out and back and get a new 90 day entry stamp. You do that for the whole year and you can get 15 months of stay out of that visa (90 days at a time).

As I said even if the reason you get the visa changes (you get it based on marriage but get divorced) you get to keep the visa and use it, without issue

Iโ€™m confused on why a year long extension would need to leave every 90 days ?

I'm sorry
@Ernesto *******
I thought he was not asking about getting a year long extension, but instead was talking about getting a year long multi-entry Non-O visa based on raising thai children at a thai consulate in another country. ๐Ÿ˜•

NOW if he was to get the extension INSIDE the country based on raising thai children, he'd only need a single entry Non-O and he can get that visa at any number of thai consulates in the area

Yes you can

@Tod ********
can that affect a work permit assuming one holds one?

you have your wires crossed there
@Maria ************
, there is no issue holding a work permit and legally working here on a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on raising thai children (if you could find a place that issues it) or based on marriage to a thai..

@Maria ************
, definitely you can. where did you hear that wrong information?

You are only going to get a standard 90 day Non-O visa which you would then have to extend inside Thailand. I assume you are already on an extension of stay (and not a visa at all) based on having Thai kids so the simplest thing would be to just renew it.

What do you mean by a dependence visa? Do you mean you are married to a Thai or something else?

Married to a thai but have kids so I am on a dependent visa. Basically means if marriage fails I can stay to raise my kids regardless. Also you only have to prove money in bank 2 mths before applying rather than 3

, basically, financial requirements for an extension based on marriage to a Thai and raising half Thai child are the same. Better check with your local office.

No need to mention but you need to live with a child together when you apply for a visa/extension based on half Thai child inside Thailand.

As far as I know, both Vientiane and Savannakhet issue either visa. Only Non-O based on marriage to a Thai national is available as a multiple entry visa, and only at Savannakhet.

Non-O based on raising half Thai child is available at both embassy/consulate, but single entry only.

(at least we don't have any successful report of multiple entry Non-O based on a half-Thai child after covid chaos)

Non-O multiple entry visa gives you 90 days every time you enter Thailand and you need to leave and re-enter for another 90 days or apply for a 1-year extension at the local immigration office based on being a spouse to a Thai.

As long as you have all the required documents at the embassy/consulate to apply for your visa, you don't have to be with your spouse or child. But it may not be so bad idea to bring them just in case you need additional documents that require your spouse's signature, ID, etc.
