Hello,

I need some answers please :-) Anyone know about getting a Thai visa based on having a Thai child?

1. How long would the Visa last.....can I apply for a 1-year multiple?

1. Does it require financial proof? I was thinking about going to Savannakhet in Laos. I do NOT have 400.000 on my bank account at all !

I hope somebody can tell me please.......and please only if you KNOW for sure, not "I have heard that...." :-) Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the challenges faced by a foreign father seeking a Thai visa based on having a Thai child. It explores the duration of the visa, potential financial requirements, and the process of applying for extensions. Comments provide insights into obtaining a 90-day single-entry Non-O visa in Savannakhet, the need for a local immigration extension, and the difficulties of meeting financial criteria for longer visas.

, sounds like you should go get the 90 day single entry Non-O visa from Savannakhet, then get the 60 day extension on that at the immigration office and in the intervening 5 months come up with a way to either meet the proof of funds to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from the thai consulate in Penang, OR use that time to look for other visa options.

Sorry, I'm not even gonna address the "move to Lao and bounce back and forth" option. That is a topic for the LAO visa group (if there is one) not the thai visa group.

Thanks a lot for your considerations........ I will definitely put your advice in my mind and take a choice from that. I might get back to you later again :-)

if you go to Savannakhet or Vientiane you get the Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on having a Thai Child. On entry you get 90 days of stay, before these 90 days are finished you can apply at your local Immigration Office for a 60 day Extension of Stay based on visiting family. After that go back the the Thai Consulate to apply for a new visa, I'm NOT sure but the financial requirement asked was 200.000 Thb on a Thai bank account to people applying for back to back visa's

Thanks a lot. I know for sure that I can get a 3 months (90 days) single-entry visa in Savannakhet without showing proof of financial requirements. Then after that I could try to 60 days at the immigration office....if that does not work out....I might consider tourist visa or something. I am thinking of many many things now. What if I went to live in Laos, near the border........could I just go back and forth or are there limits on how many times too........ still not sure what to do. Thanks for all of your inpurts

Much appreciated - thank you! Okay sorry but I am a bit slow understanding sometimes :-) ...... so just to make sure I understand you right, to go to immigration office and apply for a 60 day extension, I still have to show money on my bank account ? And what if I do not have 200.000 on my account (I am a simple man!!). Am I screwed then?

Okay so I am still thinking about what to do......some days I worry like crazy about this!! I understand from the comments on my post that I can ONLY get 3 months Visa based on having a Thai child. Now I wonder what other fathers do, who is NOT married and can't meet the financial requirements! So if I go to Savannakhet and get a single-entry......3 months...based on having a Thai child...... after those 3 months are gone, can I go there again? Or is there a limit of how many types of these visas I can get per year? It honestly would break my heart completely to have to leave Thailand and my sons just because I do not have enough money to get a visa at a immigration office. If I have to go to Savannakhet every 3 month to get a visa I would do that....if I really have to!

In Laos you can only get the Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on having a half Thai Child, which gives you 90 days of stay. There are reports that in Vientiane people who go for back to back visas are asked to show a bank account with minimum 200.000 Thb. The only known Thai Consulate who offer the 1 year Multiple Entry Visa is in Penang but there you need to show a bank account with minimum 400.000 Thb

Thank you so much. You sound like someone who knows things...much appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚ so I wonder if I could apply again in Laos...after the 90 days. Is a bit of a gamble and risky maybe.....

Oh.....What is the difference? I never heard that before ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes - I am the father, my name is on the birth certificate.

Oh wow...interesting. Thanks for sharing!!

Difference is, if you're only mentioned on the birth certificate you need a Visa, if you are the guardian or have the legal parental rights by court or Amphur you could apply for the Extension of Stay at local Immigration Office.
Robert *******
Are you the legal guardian of the Thai Child by court of local Amphur? Or are you only named as father on the birth certificate?
