Hello :) Can I still get my 1-year retirement extension done if my passport expires in 9 months? I will go to my home country in the meantime for a new passport. Thanks :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a 1-year retirement extension; however, it will only be valid for the remaining duration of your current passport, which expires in 9 months. Additionally, once you obtain a new passport, the time lost from your initial application will not be compensated.

As Lloyd correctly pointed out, you CAN apply for a new yearly extension BUT it will only be issued for the validity of the current passport AND when you get a new passport you don't get the 'missing time' added back on. You lose it
