TLDR : Answer Summary
While there is no official upper age limit for obtaining a work visa in Thailand, the Labour Department tends to be hesitant about issuing work permits to individuals aged 80 and above. One alternative is to set up a company, which might facilitate obtaining a visa through that route. It's suggested that the employer handle the visa application process as they would be familiar with the regulations.

never heard of barriers relating to age for a B visa. Your employer should and will organise for you.

I don't know this information and makes no difference to the application. I do know no impediments for gaining a b visa and associated work permit at your age. The employer usually does this for you as did my employer. Good luck.

been told explicitly, I'm too old though I'm totally fit, mentally and physically. I look young, so they hire me and then later withdraw the agreement. It's happened 4x

unsure as haven't had the information from numerous people being refused. Lots of refusals can be made by the thai government including jobs ineligible for Western people to work in certain positions that can be done by thais. But its not about heresay, it's about your suitability for the position. As I said have your employer complete your b visa and work permit which is normal. Is there a problem with your employer being able to do this? Incidentally what position will you be working in?

good to hear. But doesn't age 80 take it to a whole new level? I've been told by numerous people that I'd be refused by the work permit people. The B visa wouldn't be a problem. When I owned my own company here, the WP was no problem, but all handled by an attorney

as I said there is no age limit for a work visa. Maybe the university decided not to hire you as found someone better. If you received this news verbally it's heresay. Best contact your employer. Oh btw I was working at 61 years old under a b visa. The Employer had no problem in getting a b visa and work permit for me. Also a friend of mine has a work permit at 67 years old. Here works in Chonburi.

I once had a contract with a university and it was withdrawn for being over 45. They claimed they couldn't get me a work permit

There's no upper limit but the Labour department won't issue one to someone of that age. You can however set up a company and get one that way.
