TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the interest in applying for a retirement visa in Thailand by a 55-year-old individual. The comments provide information about the requirement to have 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account, the application process through embassies, and clarify that working in Thailand is not allowed under this visa. Additionally, there are details on visa fees, suggesting that the OA retirement visa costs between $200 and $300.

Is there a fee for this visa?

Depending on the visa you obtain (there are different types of visas based on retirement) and the consulate/embassy where you obtain it, the fees range from about £50-£150.

thanks. I was talking about the OA retirement visa (I thought that was what was being discussed). It appears the application fee is $200, which is in line with your estimate. I guess that’s the only cost, which I found a bit surprising. Thanks.

I understand the confusion. Unfortunately this is not a visa agency, this is a group for foriegners that need advice and help sorting out their visa status. If you're interested in apply for a retirement visa we can offer you advice on the paperwork and process needed to get you in the right direction.

One thing to remember about the retirement visa/extension, unless you are wealthy, you can not legally work with a retirement visa/extension. You can get a type OA retirement visa from outside Thailand to come and live here, but as long as you have that visa/extension, you can not legally work in Thailand, and being just 55 years old I suspect you still plan on working. Just contact the Thai embassy/consulate close to you, and they will help you. It is actually an easy process.
