TLDR : Answer Summary
A Norwegian traveler inquired about obtaining a retirement visa at 40 years old, despite receiving a pension. Responses clarified that one must be 50 years old for a retirement visa. Alternatives like the METV tourist visa for extended stay, the Thai Elite visa for longer residency, and an investor visa were suggested, allowing for various options to stay in Thailand.

Your best bet for a long term stay is an elite visa, which gives you between 6 to 21 years in Thailand. You can find more information at

Other options :

Or obtain an investor visa with a deposit in a Thai bank of 3 Million Thai baht. Allows for up to 10 years stay in Thailand...5 years + 5 years.

You must be age 50+ to obtain an O-A retirement visa.

...you could obtain the Thai Elite visa ...allows 5 years stay in Thailand. Fee is 500,000 Thai baht

I suggest you obtain a 6 month METV multiple entry tourist visa. With planning you can get up to 9 months stay in Thailand.
