Tod in another thread you mentioned knowing people who are on Non O visas with an extension for 'retirement' who also have work permits.

You mentioned not all labour offices would issue a WP in these cases.

Can you tell me if Bangkok will?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that individuals holding a Non-O visa for retirement (extension based on being over 50) will generally not be able to obtain a work permit in Bangkok or Pattaya. There have been changes in the rules, and while some may have previously received work permits under these conditions, current regulations seem to restrict this further in major cities.

believe me the labor rules on who can get a work permit have not changed it's just that Bangkok and Pattaya will not issue work permits on people holding extensions of stays based on being over 50

ok, thanks! just to clarify if I read your post correctly, it is not strictly forbidden by labor rules, but generally denied?

@Che***
, you're not gonna find ANY information about it because flat out most dept of labor offices won't issue a work permit on an extension based on retirement.

You or the people who are going to employ you are gonna hafta make a trip to the dept of labor in your area and see what's what about it.

Thanks Tod.

work permits are address specific and the only time they will put an address down that is out of province from where you got the work permit is if the main company has another office.

Bugger. I'm in Bangkok so that idea goes out the window.

Related question Tod, which you may know the answer to. If someone were to temporarily move to somewhere that did allow a WP on a retirement extension, but set up their company in Bangkok could that work? I'm still unsure whether I need a Bangkok company and separate company registrations for operations in Phuket, Pattaya, etc, or whether a company created in BKK can operate across the entire country.

Non imm O based on marriage = yes. Based on being over 50, ie, usually known as retirement, = no.

I know someone with a non-O and a WP, but they were issued quite a while ago and the rules have since changed.
Lloyd ********
Ok, same applies about rule changes, or lack thereof.
Brad *********
The non-O I was referring to was based on retirement.

Always been able to get a WP at any office with a Non-O based on marriage or child. The rules have not changed, not now or ever.
