TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering moving to Thailand upon retirement and inquiries whether they can apply for a business or work visa while their Thai wife runs a farm. Comments suggest that under certain conditions, particularly if the wife employs him or they apply for a spouse visa, it is possible to obtain a work permit. Alternatively, a Non-B visa could be pursued for employment, but operating in animal husbandry may have restrictions. Most responses recommend considering the retirement or family visas, as these have less stringent requirements.

Get a spouse visa/extensiin.Allows you to obtain a work permit and half the requirements to register a business ( capital & thai staff).

Also half the financials of a retirement visa and health insurance isn't needed.

Animal husbandry is a protected occupation for some reason along with some others so it’s a no in that term but couldn’t you just stay as retirement or family visa ?

David Broadfoot later i will look for the chapter on it, it specifically mentions spouses helping in small holdings. I think as long as they are not paid or doing any selling no work permit required but need to check.

My wife found it because she liked the bit where you work for free 555

yes no need visa attorney waste of money. David Broadfoot is right just do marriage visa, if you need get a work permit you can get one easier on marriage visa but not on retirement visa.

I cannot remember exactly the labour laws but you are allowed to work on family small holdings without work permit, but i think not with pay and not allowed to sell stuff.

I see that with a buisness visa you don't need the 400k baht in the bank.

If your wife employs you, and it’s not a forbidden job, you can get a work permit. If she is willing to pay minimum wage, and has four Thais on staff, you can get a Non-B visa and extension of stay based on employment
