Maybe a silly question, but can I get a retirement visa if I am 49? I know a man who says he did.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that one cannot obtain a retirement visa in Thailand if they are under 50 years old. While there was curiosity about whether a retirement visa could be granted in one's 50th year or through extensions of other visa types, the general agreement is that the eligibility strictly starts at age 50.

There is no confusion needed. Your birth date is in your passport
