I feel like the answer is no, but is there an exception for the age for a retirement visa? I’m medically retired but only 34.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general requirement for a retirement visa in Thailand is that the applicant must be at least 50 years old, with no exceptions. Some alternative visa options for younger individuals include pursuing an education visa, obtaining a multi-entry tourist visa, or considering the Thai Elite program, which has different price points depending on the duration of stay.

It actually is more cost effective to buy the 20 year TEV at ฿1 million... 5 years ฿500,000, 10 Years ฿800,000, 20 year with benefits ฿2,140,000 (20,000 a year Maintenance fee), 20 year no benefits ฿1,000,000 no maintenance fee....

Yeah but I don’t have that kind of capital lying around unfortunately.

The only options you would have would be to learn something here on the education visa, get a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country before you come here OR invest in the Thai Elite program (their lowest price point for a 5 year visa is 500K baht).

, the upside for the ED visa extensions when attending a university is they usually issue an extension for a year at a time instead of 90 days at a time :)

Yeah I’m here attending university so I’ll have an ed visa for a few years, but afterwords I suppose I’ll have to start working again.

Understood. So it’s just an “age requirement” visa as opposed to a retirement visa then. Bummer.

nope, Actually there is no such thing as a retirement visa even though that's what every Tom, Dick and Somchai (thai and foreigner alike call it). It's actually issued based on being over 50 years old

Minimum age is 50 years. No exceptions.
